  • Thank you to Dr. Dawn Besemer, PsyD, a licensed psychologist in New York State and a former employee of MercyFirst, for leading an engaging training session for our direct care staff in the Long Island Residential programs. Titled “Daring to Care: Showing Bravery in Our Work Through Self-Compassion, Resilience, and Self-Care,” the training provided valuable insights on managing job-related stressors and emphasized the crucial need for self-care among staff members.

  • MercyFirst NYC Residential programs recently teamed up with the NYPD Youth Strategies Division (YSD) in Brooklyn to throw a fantastic Winter Wonderland party for all community residents. The NYPD YSD generously provided the venue, decorations, a DJ, and a photographer, making the event feel extra special. Attendees enjoyed dancing, games, and plenty of delicious food. The highlight of the day came when the youth got to choose gifts for themselves and others, spreading joy all around. MercyFirst is truly grateful for the partnership we've built with the NYPD, and we’re excited about future collaborative projects and events. It was a wonderfully uplifting experience for our youth to engage with officers who are committed to supporting both them and our community.

  • Congratulations to Scott Gildea! He completed his 13th Polar Bear Plunge for MercyFirst yesterday, raising over $20,000 alongside his friend, and fellow Polar Bear, Stephen Kuhl! A huge thank you to everyone who cheered him on and supported him as he took the leap into the icy waters at Coney Island. #polarbearplunge
