The United States Marine Corps Reserve was established when Congress passed the Naval Appropriations Act of Aug. 29, 1916 and is responsible for providing trained units and qualified individuals to be mobilized for active duty in time of war, national emergency, or contingency operations. Marine Forces Reserve also provides personnel and operational tempo relief for active component forces in peacetime. The vision for Marine Forces Reserve is to be the Nation's premier Reserve component, seamlessly integrating with the active forces, enhancing the operational reach and endurance of the Marine Corps... always capable of fighting and winning. United States Marine Corps MV-22B Ospreys from VMM-774 and VMM-764 conduct a formation flight over New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025, as part of Super Bowl LIX events. U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 542 and MV-22B Ospreys with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadrons (VMM) 774 and 764 conducted a formation flight over New Orleans on February 7, 2025, ahead of Super Bowl LIX. As the lead service for this year’s Super Bowl flyover, the Marine Corps has participated in multiple events throughout the week, highlighting its history and capabilities.
