Official non-profit partner of the LAFD dedicated to providing our firefighters with life-saving equipment & resources.

About us

Our Mission The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Foundation provides vital equipment and funds critical programs to help the LAFD save lives and protect communities. Why We Exist Approximately 97% of the city’s budget for the LAFD goes towards personnel costs. This leaves just 3% to cover the cost of essential equipment, new technology, and training resources needed to keep our firefighters safe. The LAFD Foundation exists to bridge critical funding gaps by channeling corporate and philanthropic support into helping the LAFD respond to thousands of emergency calls and protect the City of Los Angeles. The LAFD Foundation is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization (27-2007326), which exceeds the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance Standards, and is highly rated on Charity Navigator and GuideStar.

  • Introducing February's Firefighter of the Month: Haz Mat Firefighter Mark McLean from Fire Station 48. When 18-year-old Mark McLean told his father he wanted to be a firefighter, his father replied, “Come back to me when you’re ready.” Years later, after playing professional baseball, building a career in aerospace engineering, and joining the East County Fire Protection District in San Diego, McLean finally understood—firefighting isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. His dream became a reality in 2004 when he graduated from LAFD’s Drill Tower 40. Over the past 21 years, he has served at some of the busiest stations, from Fire Station 9 to Fire Station 66, where both his father and uncle once worked. As a Haz Mat Task Force member and Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) specialist, McLean has played a crucial role in responding to major incidents, including the Alameda CNG explosion and the lithium-ion battery truck fire near the Port of LA. “This is the best job in the world,” McLean said. “I’m not going to say it takes a different type of person to be a firefighter, but it does take a different mindset.” Read more about Firefighter McLean’s incredible journey here: https://lnkd.in/gFFfDWNT The Firefighter of the Month program is brought to you by Marathon Los Angeles Refinery.

  • Dear Firefighter… "I am thankful for your effort in trying to contain and put out the wildfires that have devastated so many communities." "I am grateful for you guys because you all are always risking your lives every time you get a new call." "All of California supports you." These are just a few of the hundreds of heartfelt messages sent by students across the country to #LAFD firefighters following the devastating January wildfires. Handwritten letters and drawings now cover the walls of fire stations, serving as a powerful reminder of the support and appreciation from young people near and far. "This stuff keeps us going," one firefighter shared after 24 straight days on the fire line. To every student, teacher, and school that sent words of encouragement—THANK YOU. Your kindness, love, and support mean the world to our first responders. ❤️

  • Introducing January's Firefighter of the Month: Apparatus Operator (AO) Robby Jackson from In-service Training. On January 7, 2025, AO Jackson was teaching an auto-extrication class when he heard the call—a fire in the Palisades. Within moments, he was mobilizing resources, setting up base camp at Will Rogers State Beach, and ensuring firefighters on the front lines had the tools they needed to protect homes and communities. From logistics to leadership, AO Jackson’s dedication to the job runs deep. With a passion for problem-solving and a drive to give 100%, his impact on the LAFD is undeniable. To firefighter hopefuls, he says, “Have a good attitude, have a good work ethic, and give it one hundred percent. That’s going to take you a long way.” Read his full story here: https://lnkd.in/gFFfDWNT The Firefighter of the Month program is brought to you by Marathon Los Angeles Refinery.
