  • Baby elephant Tula-Tu is adorable – but the birth of a new baby elephant at Oregon Zoo is not exactly cause for celebration from an animal welfare perspective. Before you share a seemingly cute story about a baby animal at a zoo, here’s what you should know: 🐘 The Oregon Zoo has seen several elephants die in recent years – such as Lily, who died the day before her 6th birthday. Her mother, Rose-Tu, watched her die. She cried out and seemed to show signs of grief at the loss of her baby. Tula-Tu was born to the same mother elephant as Lily. 🐘 Elephant breeding programs at zoos have horrible mortality rates – deaths among calves. Baby elephants born into captivity are reportedly about 3 times as likely to die before adulthood compared to baby elephants born into the wild. 🐘 Baby elephants bring in visitors and publicity to zoos, but they do not aid the conservation of wild elephants – elephants born in captivity will die in captivity. 🐘 Zoos cannot provide the unique environmental or social needs elephants require. A baby elephant born into a zoo will likely exhibit tragic behavioral signs of stress – such as head bobbing, swaying, and pacing. (Representative Image)

  • Imagine a world where: -there are NO dog or cat meat markets -monkeys are never harmed for “entertainment” -the last fur farm has shut down -grotesque animal experimentation is a thing of the past -animals are treated as the sentient beings they are We are working to build a more compassionate future for animals – every single day – and we are seeing PROGRESS! Just a few years ago, the end of South Korea’s commercial dog meat market seemed so far away. Now, dog meat farms are shutting down! Through investigations, petitions, sponsoring aid to animals in need, and by shining a light on animal cruelty no matter where it is – we are making a difference for animals, thanks to the support of compassionate people like YOU.

  • These are the faces of the victims killed in fur farm cruelty – as documented in a NEW investigation from Lady Freethinker and Paws of China into multiple fur farms in China. Behind every “luxury” fur garment is a life of pain and gruesome death. Will you speak up for these innocent animals? SHARE to spread the word that no matter how fur retailers try to spin it, the reality is that #FurIsTorture.

  • As many as 528 dogs may be forced to run through gruesome conditions in this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Here’s what you should know about the brutal race: The trail is over 100 miles longer than normal this year. Three young dogs reportedly died during the 2024 race. Over 100 dogs have reportedly died in the race’s history. The 1000 miles of blistering cold and treacherous territory puts dogs at unnecessary risk of pneumonia, hypothermia, lung damage, ulcers, exhaustion, and other injuries and illnesses. Hundreds of dogs have reportedly become injured or ill during the race’s history. Mushers are incentivized to put “winning” ahead of any individual dog’s health, as the race awards prizes. Mushers have been accused of dumping, hitting, or dragging dogs towards the finish line. Training for the event has also led to dogs dying unnecessarily: 5 dogs reportedly died while training for last year’s race. The #Iditarod ended a statement on social media about altering the race path with this remark: “The Iditarod remains committed to upholding its legacy as the most challenging and exciting sled dog race in the world,” which speaks to the inherent truth – dogs are being forced to endure brutal conditions and race for entertainment. SPEAK OUT against the cruelty and SIGN the petition to end it! https://lnkd.in/gvZhP2XT (Representative Image)

  • Canines like this innocent fox were killed for “luxury” fashion at fur farms in China – as exposed by LFT’s latest investigation into the ongoing trade. Foxes and other animals slaughtered on fur farms are no less worthy of compassion than dogs. 🐕 Speak out against the cruelty by NEVER wearing fur or garments made from other animals and by demanding fashion companies END THE VIOLENCE. 🦊 #FurIsViolence #FurIsNotFashion #FurFarm #EndFurViolence

  • 📣NEW INVESTIGATION: LFT Exposes FUR farm violence❗ Lady Freethinker went to multiple fur farms in China in December 2024 – and with our partner, Paws of China, we documented the gruesome, hidden reality behind fur. We found: -Trembling foxes forced to listen to the cries of other animals being butchered -Foxes pacing and spinning in clear distress -Piles of carcasses from slaughtered animals -Rows and rows of animals crammed in tiny metal cages, surrounded by filth -A fox who cried out while being SKINNED ALIVE 🦊 Speak out against the cruelty by spreading awareness, demanding companies drop fur from their fashion, and vowing to NEVER purchase fur or other animal skins. 🦊 #FurIsViolence #FurIsNotFashion #FurFreeFashionNOW #FurFarms #Fur

  • Good news: Wales is the latest country to take steps to BAN greyhound racing! This announcement follows pressure from Welsh citizens and news that other nations are working to outlaw the cruel “sport” – which is so often deadly for dogs. More than 2,700 greyhounds in the U.K. have reportedly died as a result of the brutal industry since 2018. This good news for dogs goes to show that progress is possible!! We will never stop speaking out against industries that harm animals for profit or entertainment. (Representative Image)

  • Almost 200 bears and over 40 wolves have been killed in Alaska as a result of the state’s horrific predator-killing program – but there is hope that the program could end! An attorney is suing to end the program, and while her case was initially dismissed, she didn’t give up. She took the case to Alaska’s Supreme Court – which just ruled that she has grounds to sue and that her case may proceed! “I want to live in a place where wildlife is flourishing,” Michelle Bittner said about her case. “I am exhilarated by viewing wildlife in their natural habitat. And I cherish wildlife, including predators.” Bears, wolves, and other predators are just as worthy of respect as any other sentient being. https://lnkd.in/gQua_TA6

  • 🐕 Life expectancy for an average dog: 10+ years. 🐕 Life expectancy for homeless dogs on the Navajo Nation reservation: 2 years. There are about 500,000 stray dogs living in the Navajo Nation – and Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab is dedicated to helping animals and humans alike in the communities around the Four Corners of the U.S. Underdog is helping house dogs, hosting mobile clinics in remote areas, transporting dogs to veterinary care, donating dog food, and more. They are also helping raise awareness about the unique challenges animals and animal guardians face on reservations in the Four Corners – like lack of access to running water or transportation. Check out their page to learn more about the beautiful dogs they’re helping!
