Do you feel comfortable discussing behavioral health issues, like anxiety or depression, with your primary care provider? You should. Physical and behavioral health issues are deeply connected and failing to treat one can make it harder to treat the other. That's why Kinwell Health integrates care for behavioral health issues in our primary care practices. Learn more about how Kinwell clinics incorporate behavioral health services from Director of Behavioral Health Dr. Asher Strauss in this segment from New Day Northwest.

  • Last year, Kinwell clinics across Washington introduced more patients than ever before to a new model of primary care with them at the center. Read more about how we accomplished this, and where we go from here, from our CEO and president Roger Hinson, MD, MSc.

In 2024, Kinwell Health clinics saw a growth in total patient visits of more than 67%. That’s a number that floored me when I first saw it. But the more I dig into our end of year figures, the prouder I am of what the Kinwell team is building. Because we’re not just serving more people. We’re proving that primary care can work differently. That it can work better. That the model we’re developing can let us not just see more people but really serve them. In clinics and virtual appointments across Washington, our team helped patients in 79,000 appointments in 2024. To make that growth possible, we also grew our staff, adding more than two dozen new clinicians to support our advanced primary care model, provide behavioral health services, and more. And perhaps most importantly, we grew while maintaining the great service that people come to Kinwell for. The longer appointments, health coaching opportunities, and other elements that set Kinwell’s care apart earned us an 85 Net Promoter Score – a measurement of patient satisfaction that’s almost double the industry average. There is more growth on the horizon for Kinwell, and our team has an ambitious 2025 laid out in front of them. But I could not be prouder of the work our staff – from administrators to clinicians – has done in the past 12 months, and it’s a real pleasure to take a moment and note this accomplishment. https://lnkd.in/g66KDWYp

Improving access to primary care is one of the most pressing issues in healthcare today. Giving people the ability to easily connect with a primary care provider they know and trust is fundamental to improving their health and wellbeing.    That’s why I was so thrilled to be part of a lively and informative conversation about how we can grow, scale, and improve access to primary care at the recent State of Reform conference in Spokane.   It’s always enlightening to speak about this topic with leaders from different parts of the healthcare ecosystem, who are all key to addressing this challenge. And it is particularly rewarding to share the work that KinwellHealth  and Premera Blue Cross are doing to bring advanced, accessible primary care to Washington, and how our model results in better experiences, better outcomes, and better value for the people we serve.

There’s no healthcare relationship more important than the one you have with your primary care provider. We know that when primary care appointments are hard to get, people don’t get the care they need. We know that patients’ health suffers as a result, with minor issues turning into serious conditions due to a lack of care. We know this is an unacceptable state of affairs, and we are working to solve it in Washington. Writing in the Tri-City Herald, Kinwell Medical Group President Dr. Mack Hinson, MD, MSc details the challenges that a shortage of primary care physicians poses, especially in rural areas, and what healthcare providers and organizations are doing to address this issue. https://bit.ly/3BYbMqb

  • Great to see members of the Kinwell team out for the Puget Sound Heart & Stroke Walk this weekend! It was a beautiful day to get some steps in while supporting awareness of heart health issues and raising money for research around cardiovascular health, and we're so proud to have Kinwell represented at this fantastic event.
