Interesting comment from the FAA's Powered Lift SFAR: "The SFAR enables the FAA to collect data to inform the FAA on future rulemaking for powered-lift operations, and once powered-lift operations become more commonplace and the FAA has a better understanding of the operational complexities for these aircraft, the FAA could consider making a future adjustment to the TCAS requirements. However, at this time, the FAA will require TCAS be installed on powered-lift that have a passenger seat configuration of 10 or more passenger seats." Also, the FAA cites cost as the reason a higher standard isn't currently required. However, Hover, Inc is currently flight testing the first ultra low C-SWaP Detect and Avoid (DAA) system on the PteroDynamics Inc. aircraft that includes a 4 quadrant interrogator and the first certifiable DAA computer that has an ARINC 653 RTOS and 16GB of SDRAM capable of hosting ACAS X and other airborne autonomy functions. This system is set to open the door to full airborne autonomy for military and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft.
