Meet Sadie St. Lawrence, AI and data science instructor, CEO, and nonprofit founder! Sadie has educated over 600,000 students and built a global tech community of 70,000 members. Her advice to anyone interested in pursuing a career in AI: “Don’t disregard your past work experience—it’s a valuable asset! Use your existing knowledge as a bridge to transition into this field while building on new skills,” she says. “For example, if you’ve worked in financial services, leverage your industry expertise to apply for AI-related roles in that sector. Highlight how your understanding of the industry, combined with your new AI skills, uniquely positions you to drive innovation and solve challenges in the space. By blending your previous experience with AI, you create a compelling story for potential employers, showing both expertise and adaptability.” To get started in AI, Sadie recommends exploring popular AI tools, including ChatGPT and Claude, MidJourney, and Perplexity. For technical roles, learn a programming language like Python as well as frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch. “To excel in the AI field, it's essential to become proficient with tools that support creativity, problem-solving, and productivity,” she says.
