Without access to #BasicNeeds like food, housing, and transportation, completing your education becomes a constant battle. No learner should have to choose between paying for their next meal & their college costs. Thank you to SNHU’s President Lisa Marsh Ryerson for supporting this vital issue! 👏
The holidays are often a time of joy and celebration, but for many learners in New Hampshire and beyond, the season brings increased worry about meeting basic needs like food and housing. From higher education leaders to federal policymakers, we all play a critical role to play in expanding basic needs and support funding for our learners. We recently held a convening at Southern New Hampshire University on this important issue with our colleagues from the Center for Higher Education Policy and Practice (CHEPP). U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan and leaders from local colleges joined students to discuss the challenges they face while also balancing family responsibilities, work, and education. I’m energized by these conversations and hope the generosity sparked by the holiday season carries into the new year so we can continue to come together to ensure every learner has the chance to succeed in higher education and achieve their dreams.
