Bennett Jones Partner Harinder Basra says that increasing energy demand has investors, corporations, and governments in Canada continuing to diversify their assets and assess renewable energy solutions. Provinces in Canada have attracted and continue seeking investment in renewable energy projects. To incentivize investment, favorable lending terms, government-backed loan guarantees, amended regulations, and tax credits are being offered and implemented. In addition, he points out that industry and many Indigenous communities are looking to partnerships and joint ventures in renewable energy projects as part of their respective investment portfolio. Burgeoning renewable energy industries, such as biofuels and hydrogen, only add to mature sources like solar, wind, and hydro. Reducing emissions requires increasing investment and development of renewables projects, making Canada an attractive jurisdiction to deploy capital into clean energy.
