Barr proudly assisted with the Altona Dam removal and river restoration project in Michigan, which was recently featured in American Rivers' 2024 dam removal report. Built in the 1860s for a sawmill and flour mill, the deteriorated dam posed safety hazards and blocked aquatic organism passage. To improve public safety and aquatic habitat, the Muskegon River Watershed Assembly and partners hired Barr for dam-removal and stream-restoration design, permitting, and construction observation. See the before and after photos in the report linked below. #ProjectsAtBarr #DamRemoval #RiverRestoration #AltonaDam

We had an amazing time in Denver last week at MINEXCHANGE, Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME)’s annual national conference. Co-located with the Colorado Mining Association’s National Western Mining Conference and World Gold 2025, the event included informative and innovative sessions, a lively expo hall, and great networking opportunities. Conversations full of insights and enthusiasm made the event truly memorable. We look forward to continuing these valuable connections and exploring new opportunities together! #Mining #Minerals #MINEXCHANGE2025

When runoff from a suburban wetland complex threatened to impact the high water quality of a connecting lake, a team of engineers, landscape architects, the city, and the local watershed district came together to create a sustainable solution. The result? Hasenbank Park—a stunning park that not only cleans the water through soil infiltration and native plants but also uses public art to educate visitors about the importance of natural systems for stormwater treatment. Marcy Bean, Heather Lau, and South Washington Watershed District Administrator John Loomis share the story behind this inspiring project in Environmental Connection magazine, a publication of the IECA - International Erosion Control Association.
