Fifteen ATD Network colleges are using and helping refine ATD’s new transformational framework designed to connect access and credential attainment to economic mobility and community vibrancy. The ATD Community Vibrancy Framework is based on the belief that community colleges must think bigger and act urgently to address systemic inequities — at their institutions and in the communities they serve. In my work at Achieving the Dream, I've come to understand just how important our nation's community colleges are to our economy and the social ties that ensure that our communities thrive for everyone. That understanding was reinforced in multiple ways in Barnstable, MA at Cape Cod Community College, the host college for Friday's New England Workforce Now #NEWN conference. I arrived early on Thursday, to get some work done in the cafeteria before our planning committee started conference setup. At noon about 150 high school students from across the Cape with "Hope Squad" and their high school names on their sweatshirts arrived for box lunches, spending the day on campus to build their skills as trusted classmates working to support students in crisis. On Friday, the NEWN event took place in the college's new Science and Engineering Center, a space designed to inspire students to earn credentials and degrees in Aviation and Nautical Maintenance Technology, two of the largest industries on the Cape, driving the economy and supporting tourism. A fitting location for a conference that hit all the marks - passionate leaders, inspiring stories from the field, and terrific networking with New England's community college workforce professionals and their partners. https://lnkd.in/eEAZq9rg

At DREAM 2025, I had the privilege of moderating a remarkable plenary discussion, AI in the Classroom: Revolutionizing Teaching, Learning, and Student Success. As AI continues to touch all of our lives, via seemingly infinite avenues, community college leaders are taking responsibility for ensuring that no one is left behind. Even more, the brilliant panelists Ethan Mollick, Karen Colbert and Julio Stanly Flores revealed that AI might actually provide the leverage necessary to catapult our most challenged students into opportunities that otherwise seemed unattainable - if we appropriately embrace the moment. I was honored to moderate this panel’s inspiring viewpoints, and support DREAM 2025. Congratulations to ATD CEO Karen Stout and the entire DREAM team on a powerful week of engagement!
