Genuinely, I don’t even know where to start when it comes to recapping the past week. Typically, when you create a Super Bowl spot and attend the game, you miss out on the real-time magic of seeing it air. But when your client is the National Football League (NFL), that’s a different story. I had the rare opportunity to watch our Super Bowl ad, 'FLAG 50,' air inside the stadium—feeling the energy of the crowd, hearing the roar of the fans and taking it all in with my colleagues. It was surreal. A career and personal highlight. The NFL used its biggest moment on the biggest stage to champion women’s sports and flag football—again. And as an athlete myself, that makes me damn proud to call them partners. This was my fourth Super Bowl week, but my first time actually attending the game. Usually, I’m out of there before kickoff, hunkered down running 72andSunny’s social when all the press hits. (If you work in comms, you know the drill.) This time, I got to experience it in real time—something that wouldn’t have been possible without an immense amount of preparation and Bailey Calfee holding down the fort in comms land. 'Flag 50,' created by #72LA for Super Bowl LIX, is the result of a years-long effort to bring women's flag football to the forefront of the National Football League (NFL) Our Emmy-winning 'Run With It' Super Bowl commercial from 2023 catapulted Mexican flag football star Diana Flores to global fame while showcasing the unmatched athleticism of the women in this sport. Alongside our partners at the NFL, we've also helped bring flag football to the Olympic stage at the 2028 Games. In his coverage for ADWEEK, reporter Jason Notte laid out the years-long effort from the NFL to pave the way for the future of flag football. Tim Ellis sums up the recent progress: “Just this week, two more states have sanctioned girls’ flag football as a varsity sport, and we have had a 100% increase in sanctioning in just the last year, so this year’s spot is on that momentum. People see it happening in their own communities, in their own schools, [so] let’s just shine a light on it with the ultimate intention of getting more high schools to sanction girls’ flag as a varsity sport.
