Habit, mostly. I was doing a page count the past few years for a 100,000 page challenge so I got used to it.

I do it as well (also inspired by a challenge I joined) because I find it a better way to keep track of how much I read. I read books with 60 and books with 1200 pages during the year, so the system of counting books doesn't make as much sense to me. In the end it all doesn't matter much, but I can be a bit nerdy when it comes to numbers and statistics ;)

Thanks! My Bluetooth keyboard for my Kindle Fire has some sticky keys (most annoyingly the spacebar is one of them)...

I really liked the Waugh, but I am a satire fan & you aren't... you would probably like his more serious books such as Brideshead Revisited or the Sword of Honor trilogy.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments Lol, I am very glad I said 'Waugh' because otherwise my post would have read: I've never read anything by HER. Obviously by telling you now I am absolutely self-defeating my attempt to remain dignity in the face of incorrect gender attribution to very famous authors.

I was just thinking today that I find the fact that his name is Evelyn confusing -- it must be a British thing :)

message 26: by Bionic Jean (last edited Jan 26, 2014 02:42PM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) And us Brits find the fact that you spell your name "Leslie" rather than "Lesley" confusing, because in Britain that is the male spelling. But doubtless you've been told that before.

Once when we were introduced as a couple to 2 Americans they looked stunned at first, and then both went "Oooooh!" They had thought we were Gene (male) and Chris (female) until they met us! LOL

Here women are Leslie or Lesley... but as a child I was peeved about Leslie Howard for a while until I got used to having an androgynous name. :P

Your story reminds me of my brother's in-laws -- Carol and Julie (which do you think is the man? (view spoiler))...

message 28: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Before looking at the spoiler and trying to be a cleverboots... Karel? Is he a man?

After looking at the spoiler... hahaha! Serves me right :D

I thought that it was Carol before meeting them - like the actor Carol O'Connor...

message 30: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I was always confused by the actor Dana Andrews and thought it must really be Dan! Sorry - will get off your thread now!

Good idea; I may think about it ...

message 45: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I'm doing this too on the actual challenge thread :) It's nice and open-ended so "Asia" or "Africa" for instance could have quite a few countries entered! I'm not bothering recording more than one book though (plus fiction and non-fiction categories) as for me it's the diversity which is of interest with this challenge :)

I like the idea of the diversity but clearly my reading is mostly British!

And it has been since I was a teen... English classics, English mysteries, English humor all appeal to me! It is hampering my progress in my cozy mystery "Read the U.S.A." challenge :D
