Buddy System is a gut-wrenching story about enduring love, and it’s full of sexy scenes that will make you blush. All three characters are heroes, but not always in the way you’d expect.
Brooke’s husband Levi returns from Afghanistan a broken man. Brooke is desperate to help him heal emotionally, and she is willing to do anything.
Levi and his best buddy Skyler were close when they left for war. After being wounded in battle they become even closer.
Their new adventure takes them to Honeybee Hollow where the healing can finally begin.
This stunning and emotional small-town, MMF military romance begins the “Honeybee Hollow” series.

Sweet, touching small town romance presenting some of my favorite tropes. This is a new to me author and honestly a big surprise. It's a quick read that I devoured in a matter of few hours, enjoying the heavy hurt-comfort vibes, the emotional healing aspect and the unexpected bi - awakening. Levi and Skyler have returned from disastrous mission in Afghanistan broken, changed and carrying the survivor's guilt. Especially Levi, who was a team lead and lost everyone but his best friend in the ambush. Their incredibly tight friendship, that was able to withstand so much during their military service, was put to yet another test, when Levi and Skyler had to recover from physical injuries and find their new normal as civilians. I loved the character's development and the way the transition from friendship to relationship was described on page without excessive pinning and fretting over how the feelings they already harboured, naturally and seamlessly evolved on a deeper, personal level. Trust doesn't build up easy but Levi and Skyler have been through hell together, keeping each other's backs, so it wasn't an issue. The open communication and the lack of fear in both men to express their deepest feelings was an additional plus in the list of things I like. Buddy system is an MMF romance so while the bi awakening is an important part of it, there is one more important person in this new three-way relationship - Brooke, Levi's wife. I really liked this FMC - funny, adventurous, offering unwavering support, care and understanding. She opened her heart for Levi's friend so beautifully and the three of them hit it off really well. The book isn't heavy as a plot but contains enough twists, turns, spice and laughing moments, to keep a reader interested in the events, unfolding on page.
So as you can see from my rating, I had a lot of problems with this book.
I'll start with the writing style. It was fast and easy to read, but that's only because it was practically non existent. There were no details, depth and a most of the time logic in the story and the characters. Some things were just happening because there had to have action and that was it.
My second problem was with the story. Untill one moment it could have passed as somehow realistic (not very realistic, but bearable), but from one point on I was feeling like the autor was just through random bullshit at the readers to read and I was lucky that the book was just 260 pages, because if it was more, it would've been an instant dnf.
My third problems were the characters. They were shallow, I couldn't feel them at all nor could I sympathise them. The only good thing about them was that they had a good and open communication and even that was questionable, because come on! You don't share some of the things they shared out of the blue. You just don't do it that way. And don't even let me start with the dialogues... Most of the time they were speaking I felt like what they were saying came right out of Dorra The Explorer and just couldn't take them seriously.
The erotic scenes were bad. Like really bad and I think part of why they felt ridiculous was exactly because of the dialogues. I just couldn't feel the spark, couldn't see the passion. Their relationship felt rushed and forced and I just didn't exactly care about them.
The most ridiculous thing, however, was the climax. Where did that come from?!? 20+ pages with a trial that could have been avoided to be written or it could have been a lot shorter. I felt like the author just didn't know what should be the climax and went with what she thought of first.
So, yes, I really didn't like the book and would not continue with other books by this author. ~~~ Rating: 1/5⭐
~~~✨This book was provided to me by Grey's Promo for my honest opinion.✨~~~
This was my first time reading Ariella Talix, and I can confidently say it won’t be my last. "Buddy System" is a heartfelt, deeply emotional small-town romance that grips you right from the start and never lets go. The author masterfully blends the themes of trauma, love, and healing into a beautifully written story that feels both raw and real.
The central trio—Brooke, Levi, and Skyler—are well-developed characters with depth and relatability. Brooke’s determination to help her husband Levi heal after his return from Afghanistan was both inspiring and heartbreaking. Levi’s journey from being a broken man to finding hope again was portrayed with such sensitivity that it felt incredibly authentic. Skyler’s role, as both Levi’s best friend and something more, added complexity and emotional tension that made the story truly unique.
The romance itself is both tender and steamy, with intimate scenes that are tastefully written while packing plenty of heat, that will make you blush. The MMF dynamic was handled with care and respect, making their love story not only believable but genuinely touching.
The small-town setting of Honeybee Hollow adds a cozy, comforting backdrop to the heavy themes of war and emotional healing, offering the perfect environment for their journey toward peace and happiness.
Overall, Buddy System is an emotional rollercoaster of love, sacrifice, and second chances. If you’re a fan of military romances, MMF dynamics, or simply stories with a lot of heart and heat, this book is a must-read. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next installment in the series!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I am struggling to put my thoughts in order so I can explain why this book is so badly written. The plot of this book is 3 people fall in love with each other, they go through some struggles and come out on the other side better than ever. It's a small town, miliary MMF romance.
However.
The way this book is written leaves a lot to desire. The writing is choppy, naive and in places nonsensical. These MMCs are supposed to be military men, hardened by the war and yet at one point, Skylar exclaims: "Yes! I love naked kisses!"
The overwhelming feel of the books is overtly sweet. If the chapters haven't been tagged with whose perspective it is, I'd struggle to differentiate between the voices because they all come out the same.
I also absolutely hate "honey" as a pet name. I just can't....there isn't a world where that nickname is sexy.
Quotes that made my ick factor fill up: "I did it, Brook. I'm finally making love to you. Is it alright? Do you like this?"
"Boing! (That's the sound I hear in my head when my giant stiffy makes an instantaneous appearance)."
"...I switch the overhead light for optimum illumination."
And last, but not least....
"...poured a quart of hot j*zz into Brooke's body."
I just... I tried, alright? But clearly, this book ain't for me.
Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy of the book. All opinions and reviews are mine and mine alone.
If you are in the mood for a spicy why-choose military romance this is for you!! This is my first military romance and I must say, I’m sold! I really liked getting all three POVs as it helped tell everyone’s story and to understand their array of emotions. There are themes of PTSD throughout the book which may be triggering for some but I think the author handles it very well. While this is a story about resilience, discovery and growth I was not expecting the twists and turns that were thrown at us!! It really kept me on the edge of my seat!
⭐️: 4/5 🌶️: 5/5
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy! All opinions are honest and my own.
This MMF book is perfect if you don't want all the misunderstanding or characters who don't say what they are feeling. There is love and adult communication.
Omg. This was amazing. Lots of steamy chemistry. Storyline was interesting and kept my attention. Possessive, protective , bossy main characters. Loved following the characters on their journey together.
This was the first book from this writer I've ever read, and I want to read the next books in this series too.
I love an MMF, and this story was lovely. It's a 4* for me, because it took some getting used to.
It was very easy to read, if that makes sense? I would love a bit more bite language-like. The MC's are so sweet. And at some points things move along very quickly. It works okay for this book. And I still want to read more!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this book. Ariel’s Talix is a new author to me and her style of writing is great. I loved how you get the perspective of all three characters throughout the book.
The storyline is great and there’s not so much smut that it seems like it takes over but it’s just enough. I’m not gonna lie, the descriptiveness and POV for the sexy scenes was hot!
If you like poly and three ways then you definitely need to add this one to your collection.
The Buddy System is a story of loss and damage and finding a way to put yourself back together. Levi and Skylar serve together in a unit in Afghanistan. They are the only two survivors of an ambush. After returning home, they try to put their lives back together, but Levi carries so much guilt that he slowly loses touch with Skylar. Levi’s wife, Brooke, will do anything to help Levi heal. Sometimes it takes three people to heal a soul. I assumed this story was going to be focused on the adult activity aspect of three people forming a relationship. I was surprised to find that the author created reasons for each of them to be in the relationship. For example, Brooke loves Levi. She is working hard to help him heal physically and emotionally after he returns home from Afghanistan. She knows that she is losing him. When Skylar offers Brooke and Levi the chance to stay with him for a while, it seems like a good idea because it might help Levi come out of his depression. Levi and Skylar did not have any attraction to each other when they were in Afghanistan. Their shared trauma changed things for them. Skylar is doing well financially. I thought that was a good addition because it allowed the characters to focus on the emotional healing and figuring out their relationship. There is a bad guy and a dangerous situation in this book. I wasn’t expecting it based on how the story started. The bad guy is horrible. The author gives an entire bad guy arc with plenty of details. I thought it was pretty satisfying. It also helped to bring the characters together as they supported each other through the situation. This story takes place in Honeybee Hollow, Kentucky. If you do not like books that include first time gay, polyamorous and share my wife storylines, skip over this one. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.
Its first time I'm reading MMF trope. So here's my ARC review. Buddy System is an original and fascinating narrative. The relationship between Brooke, Levi, and Skyler is brilliantly described, and it seems new and intriguing.
This small-town MMF military romance is the first in the Honeybee Hollow series, and it is both moving and passionate. Levi and Skyler's bond becomes even deeper when they are hurt in combat. Their trek leads them to Honeybee Hollow, a quiet neighborhood where they may recover and restart their lives.
The story does a good job of covering serious subjects such as PTSD and prejudice while still include love and passionate scenes. Levi, Skyler, and Brooke's connection grows gradually, from friendship to a deep and profound romance.
The difficulties of adjusting to civilian life and healing from physically wounds are addressed with attention and realism. Levi and Skyler have a strong friendship that has been established over time through trust and shared experiences. Brooke brings a new dimension to their relationship, bringing it to a poignant and unexpected conclusion.
In overall, Buddy System is a touching tale of healing, love, and second chances. It's ideal for readers who like MMF relationships, military romances, or heartwarming story and top it off with a happily ever after, this is definitely a must-read!
First book in new steamy triad series in Honeybee Hollow This is my favorite trope: m/m/f where swords cross; mutual love abounds. But Ms. Talix does even one better and has a gay-for-him and/or first times trope, another of my favorites. Levi and Skyler serve together in the Army. Just as they were about to be discharged from the military to go home, they are given one last assignment. Unfortunately, it was a trap and many were killed, only Levi and Skyler survived with grave injuries both physical and mental. Levi comes home to his beloved wife Brooke but he feels useless; he is too badly injured to work and he cannot do his husbandly duties either. Levi has been avoiding all of Skyler’s calls and texts so Skyler shows up on their doorstep with an invitation to come to Honeybee Hollow; guaranteed to cure Levi’s ills. What Brooke, Levi and Sky find is an affection for each other that transcends society’s norms. No matter, they are happy and Levi is coming out of his funk. There will be a difficult situation for them to get through together and a little surprise for everyone. Life is good in the Hollow. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens. I personally cannot wait for the next one in this series. I hope it is either Deputy Sheriff Blake Ogden or the silver fox Buford Wallace.
This is a story that has a bit of everything: an injured soldier back from war, his best buddy with PTSD, a loving wife, a small town welcome home, and a bi-awakening that transitions into a why-choose relationship. It's all handled with sensitivity and affection by the author.
What really stands out for me is the communication between the characters. Even when they're struggling personally with their various issues, they keep talking about it. That has stemmed from their reliance on each other while they were serving in the military, and that transparency has carried through into their personal lives once they're stateside.
Skylar is the catalyst that heals Levi and Brooke's struggling marriage, as well as Levi's issues with his injury while he recovers. Fortunately they're all dependent on each other for their healing, so no-one is sidelined. There are some histrionics on various levels from the townspeople, some melodrama in their reactions to some situations, but their melodrama really highlights the bond between the main three characters.
The third act drama really served, absolutely maddening behaviour, but needed to progress the plot and it worked a treat to move the story to a very satisfying conclusion.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. This was a military MMF romance. While in Afghanistan Levi and Skylar are in a combat situation and they protect each other. But, both are injured and sent home. Skylar has an injury to his arm, whereas Levi’s injury is to his pelvis area. Levi is married to Brooke and he feels like he can no longer satisfy his wife and he is really having a hard time adjusting and getting back to how he was before. Brooke can’t be more accommodating and helpful trying everything to get things back to normal. Skylar had been calling Levi once they were both discharged from hospital but he hadn’t been taking his calls. So Skylar collects Levi and Brooke and brings them to his home in Honeybee Hollow. This small town warms them and embraces them and suddenly Levi is relaxing. However, he is now focused on having Skylar and Brooke become intimate and soon that intimacy involves all three of them. I enjoyed the plot and the characters were great. I loved all the knowledge about PTSD and learning new things such as silent fireworks. The story was informative about how we need to respect our military and their service and how assimilation back into society is hard and challenging.
3.75/5 ⭐️s 🌶️🌶️3/4 - heavy spice, but still plenty of plot
LOVES: - I’m very glad that the active duty situation ended quickly because I cannot handle reading about that stuff. The post-traumatic stuff is still really hard though 😔 - The explanation of compersion and the example the other throuple set is neat - The conversations sure pop out of nowhere sometimes 😳 but I appreciate that they’re open and communicating about their feelings. Eventually, the communication smooths out and they have important conversations really effectively. - All the drama was surprising and feels a little much sometimes, but it was still interesting to see how things played out - The song Levi wrote for them is really sweet 🥹
CRITIQUES: - Cosmetically, the cover is a little awkward - Levi is understandably scared and upset, but his attitude at the beginning was tough to read. Then he makes such a drastic switch a little too suddenly. - The language gets quite cheesy 🧀 and cringy at times, but I do really like the dynamic they create with each other
This is cute and has some good spicy scenes. The cringe factor is there so this book is probably not for everyone.
The best thing about this book is that it is entirely believable, which is not always the case in books about polyamory.
Our first hero, Skylar, isn't able to reach his war buddy and fellow survivor, Levi, so he goes to find him and brings him and his wife, Brooke, back to Honeybee Hollow. Levi has been having a terrible time with PTSD and sexual dysfunction and won't go for help. But time away from their military town helps, as does renewing the closeness with Skylar. Levi is a hero, too, as he is willing to explore the myriad sexual feelings that erupt as the three interact. Neither man identifies as gay or even bi, but they do love each other after their shared trauma in the army, and they both adore Brooke. There is a side story/nasty event to add angst, but they take care of each other, and all is well in the end.
This book is not for anyone faint of heart about sexual possibilities since it explores that in detail. I like these ideas and love how Ariella eases the characters and the reader into this world.
I received an ARC for free and left this review voluntarily and happily.
The Buddy System: A Small-town, MMF, Military Romance Honeybee Hollow #1 Ariella Talix Brooke and Levi were the perfect couple. He was courageous, gorgeous, charming, and intelligent. He was proud to be an American and served in the military. Six months after they met, they tied the knot. Brooke adapted to life as a soldier’s wife. Levi would be gone a few weeks at a time. After only five months of marriage Levi was deployed to Afghanistan. She counted down the months, weeks, days, hours and minutes until his deployment would end. The unthinkable happened, Levi was injured. Levi returns home extremely depressed, with PTSD and unable to function sexually. He attempts to convince Brooke to move on. But she refuses. Skyler, Levi’s best friend, issues the young couple an invitation to come stay in Honeybee Hollow. Levi strongly suggests Skyler join him and Brooke in bed. “Our love keeps multiplying with each new member.”
The scenes are hot and spicy. The first part of this tale was slow moving. Great story! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
Thoughts: This was a super Spicy and super sweet story of a couple that needed a third to help themselves heal. Skyler and Levi miss the closeness that they had while serving and that they both care for each other as more than friends. I love how the author realistically showed the physical and mental conditions that soldiers come back with. There are lots of pluses to moving to Honeybee Hollow, but not all small town folks are ready for an unusual relationship like theirs. I loved how the love between the three of them grew over time and the sweet HEA ending.
🛑Please read all the author warnings as some themes and events could be triggering. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
After being wounded in Afghanistan along with his best friend, both Levi and Skyler have a lot of healing to do physically and emotionally. Levi finally returns home to his wife Brooke a broken man where it takes his best friend visiting him due to being ignored for a length of time to start the healing process. Levi finds himself unable to please his wife due to PTSD but starts to feel things rise to the occasion around Skyler. He urges his friend and wife to get acquainted with each other and things start to heat up. A move to honeybee hollow is just what the Dr ordered for Levi and Skyler to finally connect and act on their attraction to each other. This is a why choose,m/m,mfm book so if that's not your forte then back out now I loved the storyline and how Skyler and Brooke were able to help Levi cope thru the healing process. It was a sweet book with enough spice to keep me from putting it down.
Thanks to hiddengemsbooks and the author for the opportunity to read this. My review is mine alone and was not based on the site I was given the book through.
Brooke is worried about her Army veteran husband Levi who was seriously wounded and is not coping well emotionally. She is desperate to find a way to help him heal. Skylar, also a wounded veteran, is Levi's best friend and decides to pay his friend a visit. He is also worried about how his friend is dealing with his injuries and asks Levi and Brooke to visit him in Kentucky where he lives in Honeybee Hollow. I loved these characters and thought they were very realistic. I also got a few chuckles at Brooke's and Levi's surprise at the knowledge that in a small town, secrets are very hard to keep, and the other residents of Skylar's small hometown know, or think they know, everything about each other. Emotional ups and downs, and steamy interactions between the main characters, surprising twists, and top it off with a happily ever after, this is definitely a must-read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book that I received from Hidden Gems.
This is a sweet, touching, emotional/painful, small town romance that has some twists and turns for these characters. Levi, Skyler, and Brooke are well written characters that are friends, who become more, and while a polyamory relationship isn't widely accepted, these characters would not be happy without if any one was missing. Brooke is really the most important in their relationship because she is who holds them all together. I feel as though the plot of this book, was the character's path together and what life holds for them and recovering from their injuries after a disastrous mission in Afghanistan, but the twists and turns keep you interested and turning pages to find out what happens next hoping that everything turns out as is should. I mean I really hoped karma found Mrs. Henshaw and it did. I am looking forward to see what this author has in store for us next.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review from Ariella Talix and Grey's Promotions.
Overall this is a really good book that has multiple components of a great book. It started off a little slow for me and I began to lose interest. Then they went to Honeybee Hollows and things began to pick up as they explored their relationship. While things progressed rather quickly for this type of relationship they were communicative and open and that was awesome to read. I enjoyed the triple POV to be able to experience all POVs and helped to understand how their relationship worked. Quite a big plot twist that gives the story some angst but I loved how it played out rather than being magically solved. This was my first book from this author and I will venture into some of her others.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Brooke’s husband Levi was injured in the line of duty and came home a different man. He isolates himself and can’t give or receive affection. His best friend, Skyler, and the only other survivor of their terrible attack hasn’t been able to reach him either so he comes in person and helps Levi. Together the three of them end up finding more chemistry than any of them could imagine.
This was such a fun view of a new poly relationship beginning. They went from experimenting to love and it was a great transition with plenty of spice and realistic growing pains of getting comfortable physically and emotionally. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series but this town was so cute and I’m looking forward to spending more time in Honeybee Hollow.
I'm quite fond of this author's books, and she's done it again giving us a real treat to enjoy. I loved how the book flowed and felt the characters were relatable. She pulled me right into the story and kept my interest. I hurt when they were hurting and felt their joy when things went well. The small town atmosphere seemed real, if not a bit idealized. I loved the sense of patriotism throughout the book, but mostly I just loved the three main characters. I recommend Buddy System to readers looking for a super spicy MMF romance with lots of heart. There's plenty of suspense too.
Buddy System is an emotional military MMF romance. I loved having all 3 POVs to give insight from 3 seperate characters. I love how each of them are so open with their communication too!This book was a first for me from author, Arielle Talix, but definitely convinced me to read more!
Brooke is finally get her husbamd Levi back after being in Afghanistan. Levi has come back a very different man an Brooke is not sure how to help, but willing to do anything. Levi and Skylar was close friends before they left for war and became even closer after they got back. These two start there healing right in Honeybee Hollow with Brooke being right beside them the whole time.
Well written, full of drama, steam, emotions, chemistry, trauma, friends and PTSD. Levi and Skyler were the only survivors of a battle in war. They both have wounds that need to be attended too, both body and mind. Brooke is the wife of Levi , who will do whatever to make Levi's recovery better. When offered to visit Skyler, they decide to go. All three make the most out of the damage done. Has lots of steam between them. Each of these characters have some complex multidimensional personalities that the other needs to deal with. Would recommend to others.
I received this story and leave this unbiased, honest review.
This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. I enjoy their creative details that bring the story to life on every page. This is a well written story that is full of romance and steam. A story that is full of emotion and healing. I enjoyed how connectable these characters are. They have great growth throughout which made the story easy and entertaining to read. I enjoyed the roller coaster ride of emotions for sure. This is a fast paced, hard to put down story and one you don't want to miss. I really enjoy this story and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I hgihly recommend this book.
Wow, this read was something else. It’s about two military men who come back from a very hard mission bruised and broken in more ways than one. One is married and is having problem connecting with his wife. The other is lonely and missing his best friend. But when he goes to visit his best friend and his wife…his whole world changes in an instant and nothing will ever be the same again. To say that this read is hot…is an understatement…there is steam for days. Make sure you read in a private environment because things are about to heat up in areas not made for the public lol. All I can say is…Enjoy! I know I did. A LOT!!!
I, for one, cannot wait to return to Honeybee Hollow where Sky, Levi and end up living their best lives. Levi, who's married to Brooke, and Sky are Army buddies and best friends. Afghanistan took a toll on both of them; they suffered major injuries when their unit was ambushed. Levi and Sky are unable to heal completely. Brooke, Levi and Skyler work together, becoming a loving triad.
Arielle Talks has outdone herself with Buddy System. It's filled with so much love and life I highly recommend it! Thanks, Ms Talix, for another of your wonderful MMF romances!
Brooke and Levi had dynamic love before he was deployed. After being injured with his best buddy Skyler, Levi is withdrawn and their relationship struggles. When Skyler shows up unexpectedly and invites them to visit him in his small town and have them reconnect and recover together they find an entirely new dynamic with all three of them.
I absolutely LOVED the chemistry these three had and the depth of their relationship. So much time and effort went into showing their relationships developing and growing together and it was beautiful to read. When twists and turns were introduced to their new dynamic watching them grow together felt very real. I’ll definitely be seeking out more books in this series!
Be prepared for emotional struggles and growth a plus HOT and STEAMY scenes while they explore their relationship. Brooke is a big fan of something she calls 2in1 🤭
