May I inquire as to how your process for concept art goes? :3

Hmm I tend to try new techniques a lot so I'm not sure I have a set method yet, but in general I block out a general composition and layout with a fat round brush, de-saturating now and then to check tonal value and contrast, then when I'm happy with the layout I start refining and breaking stuff down, keeping an overall look in mind instead of getting hung up on minutiae. I also start using textured brushes and overlays if necessary to try and achieve any kind of texture I want. I put more detail into places I want the eye to go to, like faces and points of interest (like the castle here). When I get everything pretty good I put the "icing on the cake" so to speak, messing with color balance, contrast, adding any kind of overlays or vignettes, and any more texture I want to add. One little secret I almost always use on a fully finished picture is the "sharpen" filter on photoshop. Really adds a crispness. Hope this answers your question! <3

What do you mean by visuals, like progress pics/tutorials? If so, no unfortunately I haven't made any ; ; I'll try to remember to take some WIPs next time I do a painted piece like this so I can share my process!

It is a harsh and unpleasant place to be! Fortunately (or unfortunately) the average person there isn't allowed to rove the land as they please and doesn't have to worry about the perils of lava rivers, as their tyrannical de-facto monarch keeps them largely in servitude. :D

That helps, good way for evil overlords to lose minions if he didn't ;) and minions ain't cheap these days!

Curious, how do you draw fire and fire like effects?

To me the main secret of it is the hue gradation...white-yellow at the hottest parts, fading backward through hues of orange and red as you move outward. Little flecks of embers never hurt either!

A combination of color choice (unsaturated lower-contrast grays vs. saturated bright lava) and photoshop's "sharpen" filter. c; hope this helps!

It feels like something out of Lord of the Rings, though maybe the name is influencing my perception. Quite dark and mysterious. And lava flows nearby? Doesn't look very inviting.

actually, yes! :D It's a harsh planet/landscape called Valdur from my original stories/universe, a culture of monarchical reptilian/dinosaur-ish people live there under a somewhat spoiled/tyrannical de facto prince while the king is away. Lolz I spend a lot of time making elaborate shit up in my head e_e;;

That's usually the mark of a good writer. =) You should consider making a few stories or comics and see what people think. You might get some interest in them!

You really nailed the glow on that lava, and that angry angry sky. Those embers blowing in the wind too, man, all sorts of kinetic energy coming off this. Would love to see more of these if you feel like posting them.

it is very fun but theres alot of THATS SO GENERIC TRY HARDER and im like HOWDO
XD though admittedly the only landscape scenes i've concepted have all been forest type things, or like... grassy meadows... or like rainforest pond... this makes me wanna do something fiery jsut for fun :3
