The four men gazed at the rippling waters of Blake’s Lake. It was a beautiful day outside town. Might even be a day to go for a swim. But the four men, who were various ages, heights, and colors, weren’t there for enjoyment.
There was a rustle, and the four men whirled around. There was a bear holding some rope, a short bunny with different lengths of cloth in his hands, and Blacktooth.
“Let’s get this over with quietly.” Blacktooth said, then nodded to BJ and the rabbit.
The men felt the blindfolds envelope their eyes tightly, then the rope bind their wrists. Then they felt like they were picked up and carried through bushes and trees, most of the branches of which hit them as they went along.
When their bonds were taken away, the group gasped. About twenty different furs looked at them, none of them looking too pleased. “Leave us.” Blacktooth said flatly. More than half of the group departed, accept for Blacktooth’s Four, BJ, Stross the vixen, and Blacktooth stood there. One man gulped upon seeing BJ, who crossed his arms and growled.
Blacktooth looked at BJ for a moment, surmised that he wouldn’t harm anyone, then looked at the men. “You’re one of the only humans who’s ever been here. We intend on keeping it that way until this blows over.”
The men were silent, still looking afraid. Blacktooth cleared his throat then continued. “You’ll have to stay here with us, I’ll have BJ and Stross take you to your rooms.”
The men looked at the vixen and bear warily. “I’d be more worried about Stross than BJ.” Blacktooth added as they were led off.
The four men sat in their bunks looking at one another. “So what are we gonna’ do?” One of them asked.
“We stay here, right?” One asked, looking at the others for support.
“I’m not going anywhere.” Another said.
“We’re unarmed, stupid, how are we gonna’ plow through a bear?”
“Or Blacktooth for that matter.” Another said.
“Yeah, Jeeze, I don’t think we knew what we were getting into back there.” The one who had threatened Blacktooth with his shotgun the other night said.
“What does that mean!?” Another said, looking frightened.
“I’m saying, maybe we’re fighting for the wrong side. I’ve been thinkin’ since we came here. These furs aren’t as savage as, whatever normal animals are called, ferals? Anyway, all I’m saying is, let’s not burn bridges yet. It might just kill us.”
Blacktooth stood on a balcony overlooking the sick ward. Things were getting much better for those who needed medical treatment. There were very few who were in critical condition; the others just needed time for their wounds or viruses to fade.
Blacktooth purred deeply as he felt Stross hug his large frame from behind. Blacktooth took one of her tiny hands in one of his large paws and kissed it. “What’s the matter?” Stross asked in a soothing voice.
“Are you worried about the men?” Stross asked. Blacktooth shook his head.
“Are you worried about us?” Stross asked. Blacktooth hung his head for a second.
Blacktooth wondered if what he technically had on his hands between himself and Stross was bestiality, since he was an animal at first. Then he wondered, since he became humanoid, if he was technically having human-to-human feelings.
Stross stroked one of Blacktooth’s large arms as she said softly, “we’re both furries now. That’s all that matters.”
Blacktooth nodded, pecking Stross on the forehead.
