A traditional courtship dance known as "Together in Darkness" occurs at the beginning of winter for this northern colony of vayou. (Vayou is my bat race)
This is an intimate dance that symbolizes the union of mated pairs who will withstand the fast approaching 4 months of darkness together to bare their young in the spring.
As strong as the winter may hit them their bond must be stronger.

During the festival. Hew, who has been participating in the vayou activities all day, is keen to learn more about them and their culture.
So when he hears there's a dance at midnight of course he wants to do it, but doesn't want to bother the locals. Vivi who has lived with the vayou for many years knows the dance well and Hew knowing this, would ask him to dance. Vivi being a bit skeptical at first telling Hew he's been drinking all day he's surprised he can even stand would lead to Hew begging a little to win Vivi over. Not sure when he'd have the chance to experience this dance again.
Of course Hews emotions would get to him.
