Hurt people Hurt People
A meditative piece. I had the sketch laying around for some time but the recent events inspired me to finish it.
Prints re available but I hope to get tapestries soon as I think a much larger size will do the intensity of this work more justice, but I simply can't offer it as a print. :)
For anyone interested in the 30 x 30 cm print: https://artofmaquenda.etsy.com/list.....ple-print-maws

Hey I hope you don't mind me being emotional but oh my god this art is hitting me in such a visceral way. I come from a family with a long history of generational trauma and and looking at this art just reminds me of that cycle and how it continues on and on. Thank you so much for creating this beautiful piece, it really touches me.
This "hurt people hurt people" is so real, I understand it more than older I get. Like when there's hurtful people, reminds me to first consider where they come from to act that way, instead of hating them right away.
The other day I also realized again how generational trauma will be on repeat until individuals realize it in time and find a way to break the cycle.
For example when I had this conversation with a very hurt woman, whose husband basically raped her into having 4 unwanted children with him and beat her regularly, before the legal measures finally seperated them. Needless to say, it's hard to love children you never wanted to have, so the kids went to foster parents for safety. And then the hurt woman and me talked about our childhood backgrounds, and I learned how HER mom also has a lot of children she didn't really care about; and so I'm suspecting the hurt woman was probably a rape child herself. Attracting more rape stories into her own generation. It's all super tragic. I hope her kids break the cycle before it happens again, as in I hope they find respectful love partners.
The other day I also visited this healer who made me realize how there's repeated kinds of abuse within my own family tree too, which repeated themselves in my childhood life especially too.
You're supposed to let that burden go that isn't yours but theirs, or else you repeat the pain and give it to the next generation.
