Yeah, first time visitors to DFW have to learn the trains the hard way. After many visits, the trains are so much better than walking between gates.
Airports like DFW, Atlanta, and Denver are hubs. The majority of people never leave the concourses, they run from arrival gate to next departure gate. The problem with hub airports is they often are hostile toward travelers leaving the airport because the terminal is far removed from the concourses, and services like rental cars and busses are further removed from the terminal.

Denver has the long concourses like Atlanta, so there is the long hike in the concourses.
Denver's main terminal is 6 levels, instead of the 3 levels of Atlanta. I like to joke Denver airport is designed to prepare you for visiting the mountains -- lots of going up and down.
For me the worst part of Denver is the "Z" shape walking path for going from concourse train to baggage claim. You don't realize it when walking, but it becomes apparent when looking at the terminal map. This is why so many people get confused and disoriented when reaching the two baggage claim areas. Panel 4 in the comic tried to illustrate this.
