A character concept I bought from deeoxie over on toyhouse- look at them, they were made for my shenanigans.
"No one is certain from where these foul parasites emerged. Theories range from an arcane summoning gone wrong to creatures from beyond the void. They latch onto a victim and begin taking over their body, warping it to their purposes. And in the final stage of infection, the host's head is bitten clean off and the Candycaine gains full access to the host's memories and intellect. Those who survive long enough undergo Promotion and become Prime Candycaines- coordinators and ringleaders of bands of lesser parasites. Perhaps in a display of mocking irony, these two have decided to call themselves Sucrose and Fructose, with Sucrose being the more dominant of the two.
Candycaines are found in abandoned cities and industrial zones where contact is limited; such is the overly visible nature of their vector of attack that in densely populated areas the symptoms of change are too apparent and no foothold can be gained.
While at first they were seen as more of a disease than a parasite given that the host body decays into sugary goo within months, it seems lately the creatures are able to preserve the corrupted and candied bodies of their hosts for longer and longer... and with that, more resistant to our normal methods of removal and eradication."
