Luster the Dragonfly (AC2024 Commission)
First of five sketch commissions I fielded while in Artist's Alley this Anthrocon, we have Luster, a dragonfly character designed by '2-RW' (not sure if he has a FA account -- let me know if you have one or spin one up).
Luster (who received his name while the sketch was in-progress) is a Spyro fancharacter based on 'Sparks the Dragonfly', the main difference being wing that look very much like leaves, down to their green color. I've never played any Spyro games but do know of the franchise, and have never drawn a dragonfly character (as far as I know, this is only the second insect character I've drawn). References? a photo of what looked like a crayon diagram pointing out the major features of such a dragonfly. Still, I managed to pull it off, and the commissioner was happy with the result. As a commemorative of the character receiving his name during the commission, I drew in his name, in baseball pennant style script lettering. I've offered badges in this format in the past, so this was fairly easy to do, only seeking input on how to render the 's' in 'Luster' since many people nowadays may not be able to parse a script lowercase "S".

This being a pencil sketch, nothing new to report technique-wise. For display here on FA, I chose to clean up the sketch using CSP's airbrush tool, trimming excess and unintended double lines, darkening too-light lines, and cleaning out pointed intersections penciled too thick, not to mention cleaning out stray marks and smudges in the negative space surrounding the character. Being a scan of a real-media piece, there are no transparent layers hosting the pencils, so it's a bit more involved than one-click switching between pencil and eraser. To finish, I superimposed my crossbuck logo behind the signature I placed in the lower right corner, and cropped the aspect ratio since the character only occupied the top 2/3 of the page.
Pencil drawing on bristol paper cleaned up in Clip Studio Paint EX. Single layer 19.6MB bitmap working file. Project ID# 531
