The August academy prided itself, on its students being the best, in both academics, and in the martial arts. As a teen, K'alin was on the fencing team at the academy, and practiced ceaselessly, but never quite becoming as good as his rival. Time and again, his partner would land points in regulation sport. Of course, k'alin practiced another style, the offhand method, which would prove fateful later in life. However, here it did him little good.
