Gouache Postcard [97 - 100]
These gouache postcards are part of a large series where I will be aiming to paint 100 landscapes. These were painted in 2024.
Postcard 93 Flooded field - I have really enjoyed painting the dark skies when we get heavy rain events lately, it shows a different side of rural Australian art not often seen.
Postcard 94 Afternoon overflow - This tiny stream belongs in Berrinba Wetlands, a conservation area designed to rehabilitate the landscape after sand mining. The landscape is still recovering but provides shelter to so many native animals, as well as beautiful natural scenes.
Postcard 99 Paperbark - A slice of the waterlily covered microdam near the wooden boardwalks in Berrinba.
Postcard 100 Bouganvillea - Postcard number 100 features a beautiful bouganvillea vine in a tropical garden, contrasting downpipes, a water tank and sealed decking. This series has been very enjoyable to paint, and after a creative rest I will be starting another.

Sorry to have missed the time for this accomplishment's momentous realization,
but congratulations on finally managing the impossible!
Has there ever been another Aussie on FA
who managed to paint a hundred postcards?
I don't think so! Definitely a phenomenon worth recording!
But really, a collection of a hundred art pieces, each of which is a dazzling
illustrated page of your life and the life of the community and nature around you –
it is a triumph of astonishing magnitude. You are a city's worth of creativity in one person!
Northwest: Those dark skies look amazing together with the green of the trees
and the grass carpet around them, the orange patch of sunburnt grass
and the pale fence post up close! Take care to avoid the worst
of those storms this year!
Northeast: A beautiful stream! You captured a good length of it,
and with that fallen tree serving as a bridge, it really looks alive,
and a part of greater ecosystem. May that land recover well.
Southwest: The tree crowing from that tiny patch of land
close to the viewer is such an unusual and cool decision
on your part! It makes the be-lilied water stretching
out towards the background so much more tangible
with that piece of environment so intimately
close to the perspective point.
Wondrous colors on this
postcard, too.
Southeast: A fittingly celebratory palette with that bougainvillea!
A very cozy synthesis of the natural and the manmade,
and again, placing that deck bean so close to the eye
makes observing the rest of the landscape so nice
and pleasant, and draws me in into the picture!
Some interesting lighting in the background,
a sort of a salad haze...
Cheers on the completion of this lovable set, and enjoy your well-earned rest and recreation!

Thank you so much! It is very surreal to reach this number, it's even stranger to view them all at once. I have learnt so much from this first series of 100 and it has acted as meditation.
Thankfully after we moved to a capital city we haven't had much destruction this year, but there have been so many near us. I love painting the dark skies and soggy wood though!
The paperbark trees flourish in such damp conditions! They have become a favourite of mine to paint from their foliage shape and ghostly white bark provides such great contrast!
The rest has been lovely! I was very burnt out and missed that creative drive but it is finally returning after this rest!

Good to hear that both you and the melaleucas are thriving after some refreshments!
Looking forward to whatever new project you will envision next!
And I'm glad that your home is flooding-free,
and storm-resistant, at least! With a safe harbor like this,
you can go out and chase any heavy weather you want to capture,
with the knowledge you'll have somewhere warm and dry to return to!
