I just want to SCREAM! Proship is not a dirty word or label! It doesn't mean anything BAD! It doesn't mean you're pro-real life abuse, kinks, whatever nonsense people come up with. It's just a silly internet term to show support for people to make fanart and fanfics!
Whatever fiction people make, cute sfw stuff, sexy fun stuff, or the dark and painful stuff! It's ALL GOOD STUFF! It all deserves to exist! "But what about..." YES ALL OF IT. ALL OF IT DESERVES TO BE MADE AND EXIST IF THE CREATORS WANT TO MAKE IT.
We do not know why people create the things they do. But I know some people need a voice and fiction is the only way they can be heard. It is up to ourselves to curate our online experience using website features like block and mute. Use websites that don't host art you don't want to see.
To this day I am still getting abusive messages. People send me anonymous compliments or delete their public messages of support to me to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. I have no idea what I have done to earn this ire. I have no way to face it. No one left to help.
I just have to scream into the void. Please protect fiction. We all need it. We all desperately need it now more than ever. No matter how much hate mail you send me or public call outs you post about me, I will scream this from the top of my lungs that you are WRONG.

I am an author whose work is in the public eye, and this is a conversation frequently had in my circles. Not all fiction is to everyone's taste (just like not all art is to everyone's taste). Not even just fanfiction -- I mean published works, too.
There's this whole thing about non-male authors writing gay male romance, and some people have become highly toxic over it. What they don't know is a lot of those non-male authors might well be trans men who are trapped in the closet or non-binary people negotiating certain elements of their mind and heart in ways they can't in the real world.
Fiction and art is created for many, many reasons. Just because it isn't for one audience doesn't mean it might not be for another. And the author may have many, many reasons for creating it, so judging them or making presumptions based on knowing nothing about what/who/why is nonsense. This, of course, doesn't include things that are truly and deeply harmful, but even those things shouldn't be banned from being created. Sometimes people just need to get what's inside out. They just maybe shouldn't be sold to the general public.
Content warnings are valuable and exist for a reason (and should be more available on platforms like this one where we can't even tag things to avoid content we don't want to see). We must manage our own tastes and mental health to some degree, but warning people if there's really dark content that may cause others to have issues is worthwhile and kind.
As someone with CPTSD, my triggers are so wildly specific, I can't imagine anyone knowing what they are unless they're me, though. I have to handle my own problems and not engage with things that upset me because others cannot know that certain smells, textures, sounds, etc. will set me off. That's the nature of triggers. Blaming others for not meeting my mental health needs when they cannot possibly know them is unfair and unrealistic.

i feel like aligning oneself with a label like pro-ship is often unproductive solely bc it, much like with anti-ship, is great for creating echo chambers. uneven ground, intracommunity politix, very spooky
that said this rly sucks to see. im sorry ppl judging you in bad faith for shortsighted reasons have hurt you so severely. if the moral issue is to “prevent harm” as they all say, theres no excuse for all the harassment campaigns. take care of yourself, and play make believe how you like
