First time in my life I could take several pics from my house of this migrating flock of common cranes (Grus grus) and I never felt so joyful and happy in a long time^^
I immediately heard a strange call that made me think about a poor dog in distress but then I could notice it was an avian call. I thought they were ducks but then my mind told me it was cranes and oh my gosh once I saw them I grabbed my camera and took several photos. This one shows them a little better because you can admire their bodies and wings. 100–130 cm in length with a wingspan of 180–240 cm is not a small bird. Here the amazing yet haunting call: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe.....unneberget.ogg
It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 in the tenth edition of his Systema Naturae under the binomial name Ardea grus. The current genus Grus was erected by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760.
Other pics will come.
