These gouache postcards are part of a large series where I will be aiming to paint 100 landscapes. These were painted in 2023.
Postcard 65 Chinchilla Blooms - We made the trip out west for sunrise and sunset photography, but that really didn't pan out the long weekend we stayed there. Thankfully on the last day the wildflowers in golden hour were stunning.
Postcard 67 Fading sunlight - This is a part of the local hiking track we complete often, but this particular afternoon the sun was beginning to set and the scene was too beautiful not to paint.
Postcard 68 Barbed wire - This scene was found just outside of Toowoomba and featured open skies, overgrown grass and barbed wire fences.
Postcard 70 Doughnuts - A simple coffee and two doughtnuts from Dougie's doughnuts, fairybread and custard filled.

Thank you for continuing to share these wonderful windows into the lesser-known Australian haunts!
Your versatility is, as always, staggering: you can convey great expanses, with several distance markers, and capture a particularly scenic intersection of space and time, and then you also have the capacity to zoom in and paint some frosted doughnuts so lifelike, one can't help but start salivating looking at them!
And your contextual descriptions are always appreciated, too, especially when you mention the personal significance that a particular depicted area has to you. We are so fortunate to have you in this community!

This community has been so welcoming and encouraging it is a pleasure to share my work! Learning to edit with painting and become restrained was one of the hardest aspects to learn when I was conducting self-driven study in painting. It is so overwhelming the urge to render every aspect but studying the masters and other artists work has helped train my restraint and to be satisfied with the gesture.
Wherever I look, in a city setting or in the wilderness, each sighted landscape seems to be composed of myriad details, tiniest puzzle pieces that shift ever so slightly every second, and I can imagine how difficult it must be to group those details in manageable categories, emphasizing some and downplaying, or omitting, others.
But even with that hard-learned technique in effect, your paintings still manage to be sprinkled with lots of fine detail, which never detract from the overall impression the painting conveys -- the feel and the mood of the depicted place.
