The 'gentleman' calling himself the Doity Skunk, stepped up to the next shooting gallery and went through the necessary rounds.
Firing at the rifle targets went off without a hitch.
Firing at the shotgun targets went off without a hitch.
But then when it came time to do the pistol targets... well...
Let me assure you all that The Doity Skunk was not seriously injured in any manner. The fragments merely gave his hand a number of small nicks that healed inside of two days of Band-Aid bandages and Polysporin treatments, he was wearing ear and eye protection at the time and suffered no other problems from his weapon rupturing the way it did.
Our Host/Posse leader was VERY apologetic and announced to the other participants that he wasn't going to risk anyone else's safety and our Posse were graciously bowing out of the competition.
We agreed with him on that matter and to be honest we hold no misgivings or grudges over the matter. If nothing else it makes for an entertaining story around the fireside.
We were spectators at the Cowboy shoot after that and with our newfound time were able to divert to the (relatively) nearby Air Force Museum https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/ and take a walkthrough of the many exhibits.

Oof! Looks like someone seriously overloaded their cases with the Holy Black! Been shooting Cowboy Matches since 2002 and have only come across a few detonations like this. Probably caused by either too much powder, not enough/no filler, or overcompressed round. What a mess. Glad folks are safe.
