Howard was specifically asked about it, with Nick and Judy given as a mating pair example because of course, and he literally said hybrids between two extremely different species can't happen in Zootopia's world. If it could, we'd have seen them. He even stated that he wouldn't know what to call such animals and joked about Nick and Judy's hypothetical kids having to be called funnies or boxes. Not everything necessarily needs to work the way we do things here.
That's...incredibly boring, what he said. They're talking animals! I love a bit of realism here and there (such as certain animal facts coming into play), but go the whole nine yards! Interspecies anthro relationships show a sign of creativity with the mix-and-match possibilities, as well as just being less boring. There's also some political undertones by refusing hybrid anthro couples, but I think that's a maelstrom I'm not keen on starting.

Probably not a good call for me to bring politics into this. So, I'll keep my lid shut. Still, it just speaks 'lazy' to me. And I'm not even a Judy x Nick shipper! I'm more of a Judy x Bogo shipper. Yes, I freely admit, I'm a horny bastard that puts too much effort into my crack pairings, but at least I try to spice things up.
