This is Ariel and Eric (from Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid) as polyps and enjoying a happy life in Ursula's lair.
Ariel sighed to herself as she stood by her lonesome in the garden of poor unfortunate souls. Another addition to Ursula's growing collection left to stay for eternity to the ground.
Though it honestly wasn't as bad as Ariel had imagined when she failed her end of the bargain. From the way the other polyps moaned and writhed, she had imagined it would be a horrible experience with nothing but pain and misery. So far, the only pain for her was in her heart. Though she could no longer speak, she would still let the occasional grasp escape her lips as she sobbed empty tears.
She could live with being a polyp. She could live with never being able to talk again. However, if there was one thing she just couldn't let go, it was Eric.
Poor Eric, the last thing he ever saw of her was her being dragged off the wedding ship by Ursula after Ariel had come too late to stop her. Ariel wondered what he thought when he had found out she was actually a mermaid. Was he horrified, confused, angry? Ariel tried to ponder and ponder, but no matter what she thought she knew she would never know the truth.
She sighed once more and lowered her head to the floor to rest. At least Ursula wasn't around to bother her with all her talking. After a few hours, she took off from the lair without a word, leaving behind her pets and her garden, but Ariel was fine with that. She needed some shut eye after all the long hours of crying.
As she began to close her eyes, her peace was quickly disturbed by a familiar voice, "Babies! I'm back!"
~Oh no.~ Ariel groaned and looked up from her position to see Ursula floating down the entrance to her lair and stopping right in front of the polyp princess.
"How's my little princess doing for herself?" Ursula bent down and smiled broadly at Ariel, all the while keeping her hands behind her back.
"I can see you're really loving your new home, so for being such a good sport, I felt it was appropriate to give you a little something. Tada!"
Without even a warning, Ursula pulled her hands from behind her back and placed whatever was in them on the ground next to Ariel. It was another polyp, this one though, seemed oddly familiar to Ariel.
After a moment of watching the stranger, Ariel gasped. ~No! It can't be!~
The newcomer smiled and whispered quietly to her in the polyp language she now understood, "Ariel."
~Eric!~ Ariel couldn't believe her eyes and turned to a grinning Ursula in disbelief.
As if anticipating her desire for an explanation, Ursula wasted no time in responding, "Don't think for a moment I'm going soft dearie. I just thought you two were too cute for each other and offered Princie-poo here a chance to join you. He definitely wasted no time with that yes."
Slowly, Ariel turned back to Eric, her mouth still hung open in disbelief at Eric's selflessness. That he could give up his humanity just to be with her. That he'd choose to live for eternity by her side, even as a polyp plant. So many emotions stirred inside her that she couldn't find ways to express. All she could do was wrap herself around Eric in tight embrace, which he returned with just as much strenghth.
It didn't matter what they were now. As long as they were together, they were happy.
