Happy Halloween! This year I decided to try something a little different, and went with a more action oriented image. So for 2022 Amber is dressed as Sally Acorn, Tina is dressed as Renamon, and Iris is dressed as Midna. And Iris is pulling off that Midna costume beautifully. Playing pretty loose with the words "outfit" or "costume" here...
The original theme for this year was "famous furry girls," where Iris would have been dressed as Krystal. But I never know when to leave well enough alone, so I looked around for more costumes and cosplays. And I came across a couple really cool ones of Midna. And after sketching Iris with that design, it was too perfect to pass up. Her ebon fur just lent itself so nicely to Midna's dark color scheme. Sadly the theme was abandoned at that point. Now it's basically just "cool girl characters who don't wear much." But I can't argue with the final product.
I'm really pleased with how this came out. The girls have fun poses and their shading really pops. This style of shading really meshes well with the heavier ink that I like to employ. But the background gave me way more trouble than expected. I went through at least a dozen concepts before finding inspiration for the colors, that being green and blue. It's not the typical orange and purple that's associated with Halloween, but it works well with the girls' color palettes.
This might be my favorite style of shading now. So, hopefully I'll get to use it more frequently in the future. But I gotta speed up the process a bit more. I also recently figured out a way to get a more painterly style without having to deal with those slippery paint brush tools in Clip Studio.
