Lmao, yup - Life happened to all of them.
The older people get, the less energy and drive they have to "party" and "fool around", people start to crave stability and "serious relationships".
Burning your life can work while you're young, but as with everything you burn - you can't get back to it, it's gone now.
Wonder if Alex knows about it deep down and is just subconsciously afraid/mad at herself, for loosing her chance with Ron?

That's true.
Both parties should talk out and agree on mutual terms, as in any kind of relationship.
Mutual understanding is the core key.
Still, If I remember correctly, Alex simply turned him down, not even considering the possibility, she didn't want to "settle down" with him, she was comfortable enough with "friends with benefits" thing going on.
As for the compromise, I totally agree here.
How many times my relationships ended, just because I couldn't find common ground and talk it out with my EXs, or found that we've had some parts in our relationship expectations polar opposite and unable to stay in harmony with each other because of that one little thing, that neither of us could or was willing to change for the sake of relationship.
I don't say that relationships are easy, far from it, just that Alex seems a bit salty about Ron having a stable and happy relationship right now, while she gets to be left behind.
