Yeah, during the 50's-70's we made a wide variety of different style cars. Some fast, some luxurious, the majority was designed to compete in NASCAR races as at the time the cars were supposed to also be available to regular consumers. The motto "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" was a main staple for many of the cars that was produced during this time period.
The caprice was supposed to be a lighter variant of Monte Carlo from the 60's, however due to new restrictions on pollution and gas prices, instead of getting a big block V-8, many of them only got a small block v-8 or the even weaker powered v-6. Mine had the "305 small block" with a 4-barrel carburetor. It was not the most powerful sold at the time, but with the 4-barrel carburetor, I was able to go 68 MPH in the 1/4 mile at our local racetrack in about 12 seconds.
In other words, it took me 12 seconds to go two soccer fields. Not too bad for a 2500lb stock car.
