With how i work on my thumbnails every now and then there just is some sketch idea that turns out really well but just doesn't fit at all to the current commission. Most of the time they just disappear into the aether never to be seen. But not this time!

I'm a Nova Scotian, and this picture resonates with me.
For some reason, I'm reminded of the sad fate of The Bluenose; a magnificent schooner who was built and launched from the Smith and Rhuland shipyard not far from where I live. She ruled the Mighty North Atlantic from 1921 until she was sold to the West Indies Trading Company in 1942. She never lost a race against a competing schooner, and she was a symbol of Canada during her heyday.
In January 1946, shorn of her beautiful masts and sails, laden with a load of bananas and rum, she struck a reef of the coast of Haiti and was left to sink. And so ended the life of the Queen of the Atlantic Sea, but not her legacy. She's still depicted on the Canadian dime, which (to my knowledge) makes Canada the only nation in The Commonwealth that has a Queen on both sides of a piece of our currency. Queen Elizabeth II is on one side of our dime, and The Bluenose -- once the Queen of the Might North Atlantic Sea -- is on the other.
