The story, how it happened to Aeana is below:
From a flying dragon's eye view, sea looks flat and uniform, without any distinctive features or attractions. Aeana preferred to explore the depths - especially since it was a sin not to take advantage of her abilities as water dragoness! Therefore, when she arrived on the new coast, she hadn't spent much time either on land or in the sky, but immediately took a lot of air into her lungs and dove.
The dive, accompanied by a loud splash, became completely silent and calm as soon as she was below the surface. Slowly moving her paws, she swam along the rays of light for a while, looking with interest at the shimmering emeralds of small green jellyfish. At certain times of the year, these jellyfish would rise from the bottom to dance in the sun-warmed water.
On the surface, the birds circling in the sky could hardly be seen - afraid of the dragon, the true owner of the sky, they fly too fast in all directions. For some reason, sea creatures are less afraid of winged ones. Although some of them are quite dangerous in themselves, like the same jellyfish, this does not deprive them of their majestic beauty.
After swimming under the jellyfish, dragoness waved her paw in farewell and began to sink further into the depths, where sun's rays no longer reached, disappearing in the middle of the sea gloom. Here, on the border of darkness and light, sea represented life in all its diversity.
As Aeana sank, tiny silvery fish and larger ones, as long as her palm or even longer, swam past her. Some got away as soon as they saw the newcomer from the surface, while others swam around the female with interest, crawled under her wings, and examined the fin that crowned her tail. In addition to the fish, dragoness also attracted the interest of seahorses, which pranced in herds in front of her.
Rich variety of life that moved freely in three dimensions, whole water columns bordered by only the surface above and the bottom below! As the water grew deeper, there was less light, but no less color - whole clumps of seaweed and coral reefs that climbed on top of each other built their own openwork mountains.
Pressure and soft resistance of the water was stronger in the depths, and the first signs of heat were building in chest, but Aeana knew she could take it for a long time. She need to continue exploring her new domain!
Tail swishing, she fluently zigzagged lower, toward the tops of the seaweed that moved like grass in the wind. Her sharp dragon vision picked out underwater life: crabs scurrying busily on the sand or climbing into their quaint huts, small fish scavenging among the sponges and corals. A lazy starfish moved smoothly over a scattering of bright pebbles that glittered like their precious counterparts from distant mountains.
Aeana joined in the gathering of sea life, sinking almost to the bottom, where the sun was already faintly shining. Parting the seaweed with wide manta-like wings, enjoying the way it stroked the membranes, Aeana gurgled merrily, admiring how the bubbles ran after each other and made the fish circle them in their travels.
Caught up in this wonderful sight, she didn't notice an old, angry octopus peeking out of its cave, which for many years had considered itself the strongest creature on the sea floor. He had been keeping a close eye on the dragon that had invaded his domain, and now he had chosen a moment to show who was boss at the bottom.
After waiting for Aeana to look up wondering if it was time to go back for oxygen, octopus emerged from his hiding place and spread its tentacles toward her, grabbing her tail and hind legs. The tips of tentacles tickled the soles of her feet and wrapped around her slender legs and finned tail, pulling her down. Aeana let out a gasp of surprise and slight fright and squinted down. The octopus had a firm grip on her and was pulling on the other tentacles, intending to wrap them around its prey as best it could. In truth, the octopus didn't know what to do next - the dragon was too big for him. But he wouldn't give up halfway!
Aeana continuously struggled, trying to wriggle out of the sea creature's grip, but the sea creature only tightened its grip on her. Then the dragoness decided to scare him away, giving out a powerful stream of bubbles in his direction. Octopus raised a pair of tentacles afraid and waved them, trying to fight off the bubbles. "Give me back!" with that thought in mind, Aeana pulled her paws out of his embrace and quickly began to flap her wings. No need to stay with this grumby!
Manta-like dragoness, meanwhile, floated to the surface. With her hind legs and tail she paddled upward holding her mouth and closing her nostrils by one front paw, thus preventing herself from taking a deep breath in the water. Other paws desperately clawed to the surface and were numb from oxygen deprivation and slight panic. But Aeana pushed herself up despite all the pain in body, especially in her chest.
It was only half a way to the surface when Aeana felt something holding her by the hind leg - again! Female dragon turned around and saw that it was only seaweed, in which her paw was struck - all tangled, and impossible to tear it off immediately, even with claws it was impossible to quickly cut it off. Exhausted dragoness desperately rushed to the surface, trying to get at least a little air, at least to stick out her nose, but it was all in vain, because surface was still too far away. Treacherous seaweed wrapped tightly around her paw and didn't allow her to stick out at all. In desperation, Aeana get her paw off her mouth and used it to paddle toward the surface, but that didn't help either. Finally exhausted, the dragon began to involuntarily "breathe" directly under the water, circulating stale air from chest to checks and back. Her body swelled, and her eyes darkened. But Aeana couldn't do anything about it – she was choking…
Luckily for her, some sunrays already gleamed in this depth, restoring some of her re-breath abilities, so she at least won't pass out. Even more luckily, Aeana managed to gather enough will and concentration to stop the struggle, instead gathering additional power by eating unwary passerby fish. After that, with her aquakinesis limit somewhat restored, Aeana finally slashed seaweed by sharp water current and with one jerk pulled to the surface of the water. Coughing and wheezing, Aeana began to gasp for fresh air.
Such an adventure has not happened to her for a long time!
