I love this chubster. I'm usually bothered by relationship dynamics like the ones between he and Timon because they're often flanderized into a whiny goodie-two-shoes patronizingly chiding their selfish butthole of a foil for doing a naughty. I feel like the dynamic duo's relationship sorta leaned that way, but they never lost their decency or any of the balance in their bond. They are the perfect couple that does in fact exist is what I'm saying. Pumbaa could've easily become so stupid and naive it became obnoxious, but he narrowly avoided it by having the most well developed conscience out of any of the other characters. I like to imagine he has hidden depths that put him at equal standing with most people who graduated 5th grade but also make him sound totally stupid to other animals; like, how the fuck did he know stars are made of burning clusters of gas?

I think warthogs are beautiful, but people say I'M ugly, so I guess that makes me stupid. The common warthog is a heinously hideous animal - so hideous that Pumbaa's hyperrealistic redesign caused an uproar on social media about how uggo and scream-inducing it was - but they're also all Pumbaa in spirit. Jovial, silly little dudes who lazily meander through life and hold their goofy little tails up high while doing it. I find them very endearing, but I did tone down just how egregiously ugly they are for babyfaced Pumbaa here. He's mostly the same except he has sideburns and a buncha beauty marks all over his face. Also, he's still red. I get that most warthogs are red because of the dirt and clay they roll in, but Pumbaa's only really recognizable if he's rusty looking.
