In the vast Outback of Australia, their lived a particular herd of kangaroo's.
Nothing too out of the ordinary, expect for the one roo the rest of the herd stayed away from. Kate
It wasn't that Kate was a mean jerk or anything. Yet she was quite, different.
For starters was her unusually dark fur and pinkish nose. Plus her tail had an abnormally large amount of fluff to it. Yet her biggest issue was the fact she had the worst gas. Her farts were the most putrid stench any animal could produce. No matter what plant or bug Kate ate, it always produced a devastatingly powerful natural aroma to emit from her backside. Even in her youth, whenever her mother let her out of her pouch. It was like setting off a stink bomb
Hence how she was branded the nickname, "Skunk Roo"
It wasn't all bad for Kate, her "gift" meant she had extra power to jump and hop higher and faster than any other roo in the herd. Some of them even believed she could fly because of it.
Still, for as talented as she was in those regards. None of the other roo's cared to interacted with her much due to her stink.
Kate had been used to being alone, so it didn't really bug her. Yet one aspect of it really got under her skin
The skunk roo watched as little roo's popped their heads out of pouches and hopped around with their moms or other youthful roo's
Kate wanted that, a little roo of her own
Yet the fact was no male would fall for a farting female like roo like her
She did her best to try and hold it in, or put flowers in her pouch when she tried talking to a male. Yet no matter what, one mighty "FART!" was all it took to make any potential fathers to her offspring dash away. A few even passed out from her stink
A tear ran down her eye as she watched all the mothers and baby roo's, the sad truth that she'd never get to experience that kind of love herself.
With that Kate hopped away from the herd for a bit, it hurt too much to see all the joy she'd never have
A short while later, the smelly roo was alone with her thoughts
"It's not fair," Kate thought to herself "Just cause I smell doesn't make me a bad kangaroo. I just wish their was some way I could get to feel that happi..."
The roo's sad trail of thought was suddenly cut short as she heard they cries of a joey
Kate looked over to see a young roo hopping for it's life from some dingo's
"Oh my!" Kate said jumping into action without a second thought
In no time she was bouncing next to the young roo
"Quick, get into my pouch!" Kate ordered
The tired joey didn't argue and allowed Kate to nab and pouch him. Once the little roo was safe inside, Kate unleashed a massive
"FART!"
The horrid gas was to nasty for the dingo's and they quickly fled away.
Kate hopped on a bit more until she figured they were safely away from the gas, then she reopened her pouch
"Are you okay?" Kate asked the joey
"I'm really tired, and my feet hurt from all the jumping," the little roo said
"I'm Kate," Kate said "Where's your mom?"
"I don't know," the joey said "My name's Jonathan by the way,"
"Well, you just rest in my pouch for a bit. We're not far from my heard, and there's a waterhole nearby,"
"Great, I'm so thirsty," Jonathan said
"With that," Kate hopped back to her heard with her new cargo
"Well, not exactly they was I thought I'd have a little roo in my pouch." Kate thought "Still, it feels rather nice,"
After returning to her herd, and getting Jonathan a drink. Kate asked around if the joey belonged to any of the kangaroo parents. Though nobody knew who's it was. She tried asking Jonathan about what happened, yet all he told her was
"I don't really remember much, my mom kept me in her pouch for most of it. But I heard a lot barking, like those mean dingo's you made go away. Oh ya! Thanks for that, that was really brave,"
"You're welcome," Kate said "Anyway, about your mom,"
"Well," Jonathan continued "After hopping for a long time, I heard mom scream and fall to the ground. She let me out of the pouch and told me to hop away! Hop away as fast as I could! So kept hopping and hopping, then I ran into more dingo's and that's when you showed up,"
"Oh my!" Kate said as her mind pieced together what must've happened to Jonathan's mom. She must've broke her leg and told Jonathan to run off and save himself.
Kate hugged the young roo in her pouch, sobbing
"Kate?" Jonathan asked
"Don't worry Jonathan, ate asked "I won't let dingo's or anything else hurt you, I'm sure it's what you mom would want,"
"But, aren't we going to go look for my mom?" Jonathan asked
"From what you told me, I...I don't think..." Kate began
"No...NO!" Jonathan cried desperately trying to free himself from Kate pouch. Yet Kate closed it up, keeping him inside
"I'm sorry," Kate said "But I think...she's gone Jonathan,"
The joey kicked and fought a good bit longer. Not to mention all the blows he gave to her belly caused her Kate to fart up a storm. In the end, Jonathan exhausted himself
"I know I can never replace your mother," Kate said sitting her head in her pouch "Yet I do want to keep you safe, and I know I can do that well for you."
"Is that why you fart so much?" Jonathan asked her
"Yep, I'm the Skunk Roo," Kate admitted
"And I'm a joey in this new pouch," Jonathan said
"Guess we're a real unique pair," Kate said
(So I was originally going to make this a quest with Kate going off and eventually finding Jonathan's mother. Realizing she want's her own joey in the end despite forming a bond with Jonathan. Maybe some boy roo find's that really brave, and also can't smell or whatever. Yet I feel this angle gives a bit more longevity to Kate. Gives her more reason to stick around instead of being sent to "adoption land." Guess she can be the new side project to Vergil and Renawolf's madness. Now it's just a question of how long that'll last. Let's see where my imagination takes this.)
