Mer-egg Transformation Commission
Matt finds a clutch of hatched mer-eggs but is unaware that these freshly hatched mer eggs still retain transformative powers. After putting it on his head the magic gets to work quickly, shrinking his body to fit. He probably could've rolled onto his front and wriggled out but when he felt the opening pinching at his legs he reflexively pulled them inside, sealing his fate. The egg then changed and softened his body into the more suitable egg-like proteins and fats needed for a long incubation.
