Kalahari in the capable care of his hostess … The two have already shared a discussion on ethnobotanicals and now it’s time to kick back a bit.
I used a new set of watercolors on the background, and I'm still getting used to how they handle. This gave me a chance to finally finish a rendering of this bear lady I've been sketching on and off over the past few months and get a proper introduction to her. From here I'll need to get a lot of practice with the fundamentals of rock texture.

Oh, now this is gorgeous! I love the bear lady's outfit, especially her headband and her earrings and odd bits of jewelry and the pots and things hanging from her belt. It gives her a really nice sort of exotic look, but very practical and down-to-earth as well. The stone walls of her den, and the bookshelf in the background, are really nicely done, and I love the lighting for this piece and how it makes everything look so warm and comfortable. Which must be quite nice for Kalahari, being clad in nothing but his fur, there. It's a sweetly domestic sort of scene, and you've done an amazing job with everything!
There's a nice little fire burning just out of frame, so it's quite nice and cozy in there :) Thanks! I went through a number of iterations of her outfit, really wanting it to be practical and interesting. Something almost ceremonial, but which she could wear daily. I've already got many more ideas for scenes in her den :)
I never do know what to say about the amazing art you post. But I love the big bear lady. Her outfit is just so pretty, and it looks so comfortable, and I love how sweet and rather motherly she looks. The detail on her outfit and on the stone wall behind her is just breathtaking, and I adore the size difference between her and Kalahari. It's kind of cool to see a bit more of a nod toward some of the large differences in size between various species, and it's just kind of a cool theme all on its own, too. They're both so very pretty, and they seem to be quite well matched for each other, at least as friends. Gorgeous work!
Thanks so much! For a long time I wanted to add a little size difference between characters to show how distinct each species could be. I'm trying to add some anatomical differences besides that while still keeping them quite anthro. It's not so easy in scene's where everyone's a fox though XD It's a lot of fun to play with, and I'm hoping to show the two of them in a way that emphasizes the size difference even more.
BEAR! <3 So happy to see a bear from you, I have such a warm fuzzy soft spot for bears. You did such a great job with her design, as well as fantastic work with the background and watercolor in general, which I've always found to be incredibly finicky to work with. Great work as always!
Thanks :D The watercolor was being very disagreeable at first. It just took a little getting used to this new brand.
I was sketching out a ton of bears trying to get this kind of build (most of which won't see the light of day), but I think I finally managed something that gives that soft comfy look I love about them :)
