Also known as Mrs. Frisby in the book "The Secret of NIMH" was based on, "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" by Robert C. O'Brien.
One of my favourite books as a kid. There was a pretty cool sequel by the authors daughter I believe called "Racso and the Rats of NIMH" which was LOADS better than that NIMH sequel that came out.
I really disliked the magic they stuck into the movie, and the way Jenner was made out to be a murderous beast. In the book he was more of a political rival with his own views for the colony and didn't even die!
That being said, it's still a great movie, and Mrs. Brisby is the cutest thing ever. Dug out some model sheets and decided to see if my drawings have improved since the last time I drew her, when I was 12. LOL
Mrs. Brisby/Frisby belongs to Robert C. O'Brien and/or Don Bluth, who knows, she just doesn't belong to me!

Oh, this is just adorable. After 27 years (my God, can it really be that long?), this movie remains high on my all-time favorite movies list. It did nothing less than change the way I looked at animation. I was probably about 12 or 13 when I first saw it, and I remember being vivdly aware of the fact that for all of the cutely-drawn characters and comic relief, this was NOT just another kids' movie. Now that I'm older, I appreciate it even more.
I never read the book until I was older, and I don't remember it all that well-- except for noticing what you pointed out, about all the 'magic' that was injected into the movie. I agree with you on that; it's my one big problem with the film, if only because there's not even so much as an attempt to explain any of it. Maybe they felt that it was necessary in order to condense/simplify some of the things in the book, I don't know.
On a related note, I just thought I'd mention in passing... that I've always wanted a sparkly... of my very own. :)

Oh I loved this movie since I was a little girl, my daddy had gotten it for the family on a giant record disk. I actually just bought the upgraded DVD just yesterday! I loved the book as well, i'm really glad the story lines didn't stray too far from each other. Wonderful job on Mrs. Brisby!~
Beautiful work.
Btw-the reason the magic ended up in the film was because at the time they were fresh from walking out on Fox & the Hound & Disney and wanted to show up their former employer. Since they couldn't afford the expensive animation cameras Disney used they came up with a new kind of backlighting. The amulet & magic was just an excuse to show Disney there were ways to improve on the same old same old way of doing things that they felt was causing Disney's films to suffer.
