I'd been writing a story for this one for some time,
In fact, I've attempted to for far too long, but I've since decided the endeavor would be fruitless, as I fear the meaning I'd want to reach would be lost in people's desire to make political statements and obtain the damned "moral high ground"t that most discussions seem to have devolved into. Instead I'll provide a two thoughts. First, I think and function vastly different than most people I've encountered outside the profession, in many ways due to the mutual respect I've built for people within the profession that render other things that are screamed about by activists irrelevant. But I think an author placed it far better than I can at the moment: http://popularmilitary.com/rational.....ues-in-combat/
And believe me, I feel the sentiment of every word spoken I feel to the core, in spite my own deployment assignments not having been combat ones, the life that we experience elsewhere is vastly different than it is here at home. I wish folks could better understand the respect that is built through the mutual suffering that happens here, in the profession of arms, as it does away with so many of the foolish prejudices that exist in society.
The second thought. Like in the picture, I personally scream internally at all that goes in the world and I just want to have a hand in fixing it, such as the 8 active genocides going on around the world, and frankly bringing in refugees will not solve the problem, it is not enough. Of course we must be compassionate for those who are able to escape, but what about those who cannot escape death? The holocaust did not end until someone stopped it, and I frankly do not think these others will until they are either stopped, or those in charged of the execution of the genocide have met their goal, totally annihilating a people. It is precisely why I volunteered to do this, to have an opportunity to stop such individuals, to perhaps see what my brethren of old saw, the expression on the face of those whom they freed from Auschwitz, who knew their long ordeal was finally over. And if the endeavor costs my life? Fine, at least it will have been done in the pursuit of something useful.
I know this is not really the audience that cares about such things, but hell, no one seems to, on any "side" to have interest or stomach to touch on this topic, particularly since most of what discussed in the age is in the interest of self and not others.
On a side note, apologies to those who may want to provide positive feedback, I simply do not have the energy or desire to be polite and civil towards troll comments or people who want to be insulting in comments, that energy is spent at current.
