I spent quite a lot of time on this background and most of it ended up hidden behind the character (poor planning on my part - got carried away painting happy little trees), so I figured it was worth sharing separately :3.

Oh man, this is just gorgeous! I love the detail in all of the leaves, and the painting style you've used here is just so clean. So wonderful. *.*
Do you have any tips for improving foliage? I've tried to study from photos and such, but they're usually too overwhelming or "flat" for me (photos don't capture the 3D look of trees and bushes, and usually makes them look like a bunch of green dots). I've tried to study from real life too, but I get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of leaves. I feel that my leaves are always super messy because I don't know how to simplify them in a clean way. Is it just a matter of practicing them?
