Meet the first new character of the new series. His name is Zan and he is the crow prince of the Day Watchers. Who are the Day Watchers? They are special group of Guardians of Ga'Hoole who act as covert group of secret agents, spies and assassins for Boron and Baran. Zan is their leader and is the son of Magpie Trader Mags who you all know from the original series. Well, she has a son in this reality and Zan is that son. He is at first a rival to Soren and later becomes an ally. He is a jack of all trades kinda guy who is unpredictable. He goes by the nickname 'Lightning' due to his ability to attack his enemies with lethal, quick strikes. He is usually very serious but does tend to have sense of humor when wants to.

Even though he is considered to be a Crow by birth in truth he is a Crow/Magpie hybrid due to his parentage. However, he gets the majority of his looks from his crow father, Lord Airen, who is currently missing. He meets Soren and the Band along the way and joins them on their quest once Soren agrees to assist him in finding his missing father.
