Where in the hey is Darby
Hey! Hello! Happy January!
Anybody read these things, even?
My 2025 resolution has been to count how many dogs I see each day. I'm very excited for the raw dogdata I will acheive by the end of the year. Cause new years resolutions are fake and kind of a mess so I wanted to try something low stakes! It's definitely already opened up a level of awareness to my environs that will no doubt come in handy (I'm already pretty perceptive, so this will make the bonuses stack when I'm birdwatching, haha!)
As far as interactive art communities on the cyberwebs, i think FA may be the one where I am most active. "Wait seriously?" you say, "don't you only upload here like every other month?" Yeaaaah. Listen, I've had the same deviantart since I was 12. That "art" site barely qualifies for the title anymore, with its embrace of AI and also huge lack of moderation. God bless DA for exposing me to way too many fetishes and curious sonic fanart when I was probably far too young. 🫡 It's a tough heckin world to be drawing fun goofy stuff.
Having procreate now has definitely allowed me to goof off and doodle for fun more often, but outside of commissions so much of my art feels selfish. I'm drawing a lot of OCs from my dnd campaign, so they are of interest to perhaps 3-10 people at any given time and sometimes it's tough trying to give context to so many layers and literal years of character building and roleplay. I play with some pretty intense theatre folks, lol. We go hard. It's great! But it's the kind of stuff that's a little hard to throw into the internet ether without context.
It's a bit like... back when i first joined DA, I suppose. So much of my early "furry" content (there was a good 8+ years between when i started drawing those characters and when I joined online furry communities like FA) was very self indulgent, for me and my 2 friends who knew who the hell Tigercharm or Tammie or TCT were and didn't need the lore drop to find my jokes funny.
I've had a window open on my computer for at least a month of my old fursona, TCT (that canadian tiger), partially cause I want to redraw it. https://www.deviantart.com/torpidti.....Game-113685017 Look at this nerd!
But yeah. This isn't even an explanation, more like a ramble. I have for the last few months been informally stepping away from furry spaces. I've been trying to be selfish and take care of my needs first. I hate hate HATE the word "drama", and this truly has nothing to do with any one group, event or individual. I like furries, I love Darby the gerbil, but ultimately Darby isn't all there is to me. In the words of Taako from the Adventure Zone "I'm multidimensional, I'm a fully realized creation! Fuck!"
I went to a party last week where it felt like the only thing folks could talk about was how fun their last con was and how much fun the next con was going to be. Because I'm waitlisted for the FE dealers den, it's unlikely I will be attending the full weekend of my local convention. It's just not as big a priority. I'd much rather do something lowkey and play D&D with my buds, lol. Cons are great opportunities to connect, and to meet new people! I love cons! I just don't need to prioritize that space.
I hate and fear that I sound "judgy" when I'm pleading my case like this. Again, it's nothing personal. I just got other shit to do.
TL;DR, I'm around, probably. I got things on the move, so may be a little slower to respond. But yeah. It's nothing personal. Thanks for listening.
