Happy Friday the 13th! Welcome to Serling-Con!
Posted 7 years agoIt was suggested by
darkanine121212 that I post the picture of the first Serling-Con today.
I think it's a very appropriate date to post a Halloween-themed pic!
Have fun at Serling-Con everyone! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25097064/

Future Serling-Con Planning
Posted 7 years agoIn celebration of the first Serling-Con to be held, _every_ person that signed up on the Registration Journal will be included! :-D
The artwork should be unveiled closer to Halloween!
---
What themes should we have for future "Serling-Con"s?
DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a real convention. This is simply gathering volunteers to join me in a silly idea for commissioned artwork.
I'm gauging interest to see if people would like to have their characters join me in a drawn scene of cosplay. Simply, your character in costume as another character (likely from TV/movies/etc.).
If this interests you, please comment with what "theme" you'd like to suggest for one of these pictures (such as DC Comics, Disney, Looney Tunes, etc. ... or even more specific such as Street Fighter, Darkwing Duck universe, etc.). I definitely encourage your own suggestions as well! (No need to claim a specific character just yet though.)
Current Suggestions: Nintendo, Misc. Video Games, Criminals, Marvel Comics, Outer Space, Retro Furry

Serling-Con (Theme: Halloween) Registration [CLOSED]
Posted 7 years agoEDIT: Registration is now closed. Stay tuned for an update soon about who will be the lucky ones joining me in the picture!
OK, I've decided to "take registrations for Serling-Con", which means, asking who would like to have their character included in a group artwork with me (for free!).
I've decided the theme for the first Serling-Con will be "Halloween". Hopefully that won't put too much of a deadline on a potential artist.
[Please note that "Serling-Con" is not a real convention, it's just a fun idea to commission a group artwork of some of my watchers in costume (as a thank you, I will be paying for the commission, so there is no cost to you!).]
Here are the rules to follow in order to be included:
1) To potentially participate, comment below stating that you're interested, and with a link to your character's reference (or description, etc.). Also include what "Halloween Character/Theme" you'd like your character to be dressed in costume as.
2) By participating, you give myself and the artist permission to use your character any way they see fit for the picture (the pic is planned to be SFW, but just in case).
3) You agree that the artist will be chosen at my sole discretion (especially since there is no cost to you!), though there will be a place to suggest artists to commission as well.
4) Space may be limited. If too many people want to "attend", then there's a chance you won't end up in the picture. Consider this to be part-raffle. If there are too many applicants, then I will both hand-select and randomly-select participants. [I hope that there are so many people interested that I have to choose!]
5) On the other hand, there's a possibility that planning for Serling-Con falls through. I leave myself the right to cancel the "event" if things just don't come together.
- - -
The "Halloween" theme can be classic (or modern) Halloween icons, or horror movie characters. Or anything else that reasonably fits the theme of "Halloween".
The last day to sign up will be Monday, 9/11/17. I hope this proves to be a popular and fun idea!

Serling-Con Pre-Planning (Not a Real Con... Free Art?)
Posted 7 years agoSo much talk about furry conventions here on FA (that I don't plan on attending) got me thinking... I'll just host my own! ... Well, sort of.

I can't guarantee that I'll use every suggestion (or even that this project will actually come to fruition), but hopefully this will be the first step in a fun series of pics. Plus, there's no cost to you, so hit me with your ideas! (Once a theme has been chosen, _then_ I'll post a journal to see who's interested in "attending".)

Too Many Characters?
Posted 8 years agoI think I have a problem with continually adding to my stable of characters here on FA.
Should I keep building the collection? Or do I need to figure out something to do with some of these extra characters?
I'm open to suggestions -- no matter how simple or crazy.

Finally Going to Use the Scraps Section
Posted 9 years agoI think it's time for me to start re-posting some older commissions I've ordered, that didn't make it into my gallery at the time. So keep an eye out for some "Serling classics" to appear in my Scraps in the future. ... Along with a few new or at least "new-to-FA" pics as well!
I'll probably be slow at this (and no longer have access to some of them), but I think they'll end up being worthwhile additions to my FA account.

Doughy Massage in Animalypics Movie
Posted 10 years agoI've become quite fond of the whole "doughy massage" idea/scene/gag/etc., and I never knew about the one in the movie, "Animalypics". (At approx. the 14:55 minute mark)
I have to give credit to the discussion threads on the flattenedcartoonfurries group on Yahoo! for alerting me to this scene.

Suggestion Box II -- 2014/2015 Edition
Posted 10 years agoWhew! It's been _years_ since I last put up one of these!
With nearly 400 watchers now, I just thought I'd put up a place to take suggestions for future commissions.
Any certain situations you'd like to see Serling get into? Certain species you'd like to see more of?
Of course, I can't promise I'll act on every suggestion, but it might be interesting to see what people have on their mind.
Also keep in mind that my commissioning has nearly dried up lately, so don't hold your breath on anything you might suggest.

Silly Thought About Avatar Upload Policy
Posted 10 years agoHeh, I just noticed that the Avatar Upload Policy includes the line that avatars "may not include... bodily fluids". ... Well, what if a body is becoming fluid? Would my occasional melting avatars be violating the AUP?
(Just had to get that Ylvis journal off the front page -- it was really showing just how long it's been since I've updated this place! ... And the fact that the date is displayed there as well. That also kinda gave it away. :-P )

Neat Commercial (Dell: Thomas, Alternate Universe Creator)
Posted 12 years agoOK, it's just a couple of CGI anthro animals (with some subtle transformation), but it's rare that I look forward to an advertisement popping up on Hulu.
The 1-minute long version has a lot more story (and anthro effects!) to it. I'd say it's worth 60 seconds of your time. http://youtu.be/ypLHZh6GeNE
...
The behind-the-scenes videos are pretty standard, but interesting. Especially if you have a favorite character from the commercial.

Wile E. Coyote Melted Once? Really?
Posted 12 years agoA journal posted by
browndragon got me thinking about another of those very minor scenes that I remembered from long ago, but just couldn't come up with.
Wile E. Coyote actually melted in one of his cartoons! Well... sorta. He gets turned into ice, which then melts. It's close enough. http://youtu.be/TRT74hIV9Pc?t=4m17s

Cartoon "Squishy" Inspirations Finally Found
Posted 12 years agoOK, these clips are more "rare" than great, but considering that I've remembered 'em from soooo many years ago, they obviously stuck with me.
I remember an old series of short cartoons called "Sports Cartoon". In the boxing one, a cartoon swine gets himself a bizarre yet reinvigorating massage. http://youtu.be/KnKwjH1IIu0?t=3m55s
An episode of Dynomutt had the human superhero Blue Falcon being turned into a shapeless blob by the criminal, "The Glob". The site the clip is hosted on requires sitting through a couple of commercials to see the clip. If you aren't deterred by that, the "globular" events begin just before the 3-minute mark (and last about a minute and a half). http://fliiby.com/file/252755/ju8g5qrodu.html
I don't recall liking these two series back then, but I did end up liking these particular scenes.
See, I'm not the only one with crazy gooey ideas!

Quick Cartoon Folding/Unfolding Scenes
Posted 13 years agoJust some silly cartoon scenes I've happened across... (The videos are full cartoons, but they should start at the point of the seconds-long scenes.)
Foghorn Leghorn gets "folded". (Fox Terror [1957])
http://youtu.be/wWwIWNqDsFA?t=4m47s
Pink Panther learns that what's folded must be unfolded at some point. (Pink Outs [1967])
http://youtu.be/ZHQpbp1cHvA?t=2m6s
In hindsight, these scenes don't seem to be worth a whole journal post, but perhaps some people will enjoy the few seconds of nostalgic cartoon antics.

Stunning "Big Face Animal" T-Shirts
Posted 13 years agoThis isn't anything new...
maybe everyone already knows about these...
and I actually don't know anything about the company, but...

These shirts blew me away!
I admit that I don't own one 'cause I'm not the sort to wear something that "attention-getting", but they just were so awesome-looking that I had to share the link with the community (and no, I'm not part of an affiliate program with them, or anything)!

Suggestion Box (for future commissions, etc.)
Posted 14 years agoOver 150 watchers?! That seems like a lot to me, especially considering that I'm not an artist! Though I do try to commission artists from time to time as my limited budget allows.
With that in mind, and with the creative minds of 150+ people (and others that may stumble upon my FA page) available... does anyone have any suggestions for future commissions I may order?
Any certain species you'd like to see anthropomorphized?
Any certain situation you'd like to see Serling get into?
Any other thoughts in general about my past or future commissions?
I may end up not using any of the ideas in the comments here, but it couldn't hurt, right? I mean, months down the road, your suggestion may just become a reality!

Gallery of a Non-Artist Opens
Posted 17 years agoAs you probably have noticed, my gallery is filled with other users' artwork. This is due to the fact that I'm much more likely to commission and/or request art from others, than to try my hand at it myself.
I am only submitting art from artists that have given me permission to do so. Much of it can be found in the galleries (or scraps) of the original artists, but there are also some that haven't been seen by the FA community yet. Ooh... fresh art!
If you like any of the art that I have showcased in my gallery, please remember that I am NOT the original artist of any of them -- just the commissioner and/or gift receiver.
Thanks for stopping by!
