Quite a unique and distinctive setting for a survival horror! The Resident Evil fixed perspective approach works well, and you use a lot of perspective tricks to implement the scripted horror scenes. Can be tricky to escape them with the narrow corridor design. There's a cinematic approach that has a great deal of potential.
Thanks for submitting Live Cargo to the jam!
This was really neat! The sound design of the character movements and shooting sounds was really satisfying while the background music and the enemy's noises was really unnerving. The enemies themselves looked really frightening in a very unique and mechanical way, matching the environment but also remaining out of place and very disconcerting. The graphics also had a really great old-school look to them, feeling familiar but new at the same time and the colour palette was really well done.
I didn't realize the movement was going to be point-and-click at first and that was a little confusing to start but I quickly got the hang of it and found the switch from movement to shooting to be an interesting change of pace every time! I did however find it a little hard to back out of fights once I was in them because of the movement controls but I think that just added to the tension and was probably more of me being stubborn and trying to kill an enemy I had no chance against.
The only real problem was that the restart screen after you die didn't work for me and it seems like it didn't work for other people commenting either but that would be an easy fix and didn't detract from the game for me.
Great work! Would love to see a longer version with save points/check points and more of those little cutscenes! What amazing work for one week!
this was really cool! great animations and character models for such a short time frame. i really love how the enemies heads move really far back when they're shot, it gives a really good flow to each fight. i also love how the combat works in general, switching to first person like that really adds to the creepiness of the creatures. i had an issue in at least one place where switching to first person made the camera switch back to the wrong view and then it wouldn't switch again until i backed up, which wasn't a game ender or anything. the restart menu also didn't work for me, so i had to restart the whole thing if i died. most of the fights were pretty simple given their distance, but since it's a bit hard to navigate with the clicking, coming out of the tunnel and having an enemy right on top of you made it me die very quickly. the head also clips into your vision when it's close, although i think the gun does still hit it. overall very ambitious and a really great result despite the expected hiccups!
Really cool vibes and atmosphere. The swapping controls somehow works quite well, it gives it the old clunky horror feel. I love the creature design and the initial cutscene, but it does lack a bit in how threatening it really feels, but I really like the creature's animation response to being shot. The present audio sounds good, but a little bit more would go a long way. I also think it'd be quite cool to incorporate some kind of gravity & ragdoll to the creature. I'd love to watch them fall off from the top 30 containers.
As someone else mentioned, the menu doesn't seem to work forcing a restart. I managed to make it to the tunnel on my second try but didn't respond quickly enough, that part felt quite punishing without the checkpoint working. Perhaps you could consider a letterbox effect over the cutscenes or some kind of indicator to let the player be certain they do or do not have control.
Quite enjoyable overall but a little frustrating in some aspects. Nice work!
This game is great! I really liked the old school horror feel with the camera and switching to fps was really cool.
The tunnel part stumped me though, I just can't get past that enemy, I want to know how it ends haha
I hope this gets developed further.
Cool game. Half-life atmosphere! Models and animations are very cool. I especially liked that the enemy's head looks directly at the player. There is a bug in the web version, when you die, the menu buttons are not available, you need to reload the page.
Good job!
Really amazing game! Another favourite for me this jam. I'm not too sure if you all plan to continue developing this game more but if you do I definitely look forward to it n.n
Really loved the camera cuts and setups here, as well as the cutscenes and animations all very well done. The switch to shooting was very awkward for me and didn’t work well as I just kept missing and dying but that being said it’s also can just be a skill issue on my end lol.
Full marks from me on the aesthetic side of things. Felt like you had a great cinema brain working on this lol.
(Only lil thing is that the UI text was really really ugly and looked like a cheap 00s microsoft poster lol, I would switch it out for something cleaner and cooler looking like what you got on that nicely designed game page.)
This is giving attack of titan + Romulus vibe. NICE!
I took a lot of inspiration from Alien in general and Gieger's work specifically when painting the textures, I'm really happy to see that the vibes are correct :D
This was such a neat concept! I really liked the switch between perspectives! it was disorienting but really cool and interesting- it felt like a whole different game!
Thank you! I think the point was to have an arcade vibe, and also to add to the stress, as you can't move while you're aiming? Thanks again for giving our game a try!
Awesome game! I love the art and camera angles so much, I also really like the perspective change to first person when you aim in😁
Thank you, it's been really fun working on this game with our team :D
Love it! Very creepy and really cool use of camera angles.
Thank you so much!
The atmosphere, wow, I love it. This game proves that you don’t need to fill the level with lots of different things to create a heavy, functional atmosphere.
The mechanic of switching between a fixed camera view to move around and an FPS view to defend yourself is a very good idea that works well. This mechanic causes me a little stress when I switch, just long enough to get my bearings, which perfectly simulates the panic my character might feel.
The monsters have a good design, and the work that’s been done on their necks and the fact that their heads with tears of blood are constantly looking towards our character adds something terrifying.
At the end, I think it doesn’t have a “end screen”, alright ?
Well done!
Note: It’s possible to kill the very first enemy, who’s supposed to be there for cinematic effect, by being quick enough to shoot him. It also happened to me once that I was killed at the same time as my enemy also died.
Thank you so much for all the kind words! <3 Our team lead and dev did all the animations for the characters and the 3D models, so like 80% of the creep factor is thanks to him!
Yeah the end and game overs screens aren't working apparently. As it's not a game breaking bug, it probably won't be fixed until the jam is over.
(I didn't realize you could kill the first enemy, that's really funny.)
This game was really good! I especially love the character designs. The aiming felt really good as well. The game over menu didn't seem to work for me. I couldn't click on any of the buttons, so I had to restart after every death. I unfortunately wasn't able to finish it, but I liked what I played!
Yes the game over menu seems to be bugged U_U but as it is not a bug that makes the game unplayable, it probably won't be fixed until after the game jam. Thank you for playing it!
Yes!! Love the fixed camera angles. That first skitter across the frame before you've met the monster is so good. Great creature design too. I don't know if this was intended or a happy accident but I left the game on after I died and came back to a whole horde of creatures feasting on me which really creeped me out
Honestly, I don't know either but yeah, the monsters keep spawning and attacking your corpse. It creeped me out when I saw it for the first time as well! Thank you so much for giving our game a try!
I really loved the arcade style aiming in this game, as well as the click-to-move setup! I did have some issues with camera transitions, but overall a very smooth experience! Also, nice enemy design and very good animations!
Thank you very much! Our team lead did the coding, the animating and all the characters are his 3D modeling! It's great to see his work appreciated :D
It felt like a Resident Evil game but with good aiming. I enjoyed the game and the setting is really creepy and has a nice atmosphere, almost dream like. Nice.
Thanks! When I was recruited, our team lead pitched it to me as a RE/SH kind of vibe! It's cool to see that it does read like that.
Congratulations to the team. You nailed it.
I really like the aesthetic, and the enemies were spooky. The ability to switch between perspectives is really cool and felt smooth.
Thank you very much! Our dev worked really hard on it so it's cool to see his work praised :D
