Kiskadeal With It's itch.io pageGame's Take on the Theme
The game's take on the theme is building up speed by flying in circles, then unleash the full force of your momentum on your enemies. The more you spin, the more powerful your attack is going to be, that is if you land it of course.
Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
Yes. I, lokoponto, made all the art and my friend, C.A.Na.Ro., composed the music.

I just love this game ! Nothing much to say as it really similar to Cuphead. I just feel like the Parry is not worth. I prefered staying on the ground an extra few seconds to full recover, and was able to finish all bosses like this.
One of the unique games in this jam. Also its a pretty hard game. I like the visuals a lot and the sound design too.
I really like the aesthehtics and the animations are awesome, I find the mechanics work so well, all is so profesional, I rate graphics, music, fun and control the most but all is cool, also, if you have some time, please, rate my game too, thanks!!!
This game is a real sleeper hit, I thought this was pretty excellent. The main mechanic is so much fun to play with, the risk that comes both the attacks and parries are pretty much perfectly balanced. The boss design is so dynamic, and it plays with the mechanics to bring out the most out of them brilliantly. Also the animation is absolutely fantastic! Seriously amazing job
Awesome game, great art style and mechanics. Well done!
I really love this game. The animals are so cute and closely connected to the theme, and the game mechanics are cleverly designed. Great job.
That’s insane!
That’s insane!
The controls make it a bit hard to play but i love everything else, good job!
The artstyle is very cool and I love the SFX and the music on this game. The bosses are very well designed and I can see that it was extremely inspired by Cuphead. The method of attack is pretty neat, a very unique way to interpret the theme, but I can't get the hang of the controls, the bird sometimes slows down for no apparent reason at all, I like the idea of building speed to deal more damage but putting yourself at risk of getting hit the longer you stay and also having to coordinate the moment of release at the right moment to hit the boss, it's truly a very good concept, it's just skill issue from my part.
Besides that, very solid game, loved it.
Very damn interesting game you made here. I have some issues, but it doesn't take away from the fact that this game does a lot very well. I also want to point out that I managed to beat every boss except for the snake, but I'll get to that later.
Right off the bat, the presentation is amazing. I love the boss's character designs and how you managed to incorporate them into the level design for every boss. I thought the dog chasing after it's own tail was honestly pretty damn hilarious, but also genius.
The cuphead inspirations are definitely pretty evident, but I think my favourite is how you showed through the environment that an attack was about to happen ( Like the flea on the dog's butt, or the snake venom on the snake's body in the background ).
That said, I'm not really a fan of the controls. They felt a little too imprecise since I'd sometimes make a circle perfectly whereas sometimes the bird slowed down and I wasn't really sure why. If I had to make a suggestion, what if holding Z makes you do a circle without needing to press the direction keys to spin the bird, just that it starts accelerating a little slowly. And then you release Z while holding the direction keys to make the bird charge in the direction that you're holding.
On one hand, I think the stamina system is an interesting idea to balance the player, but unfortunately I think it's implementation limits the player in a bad way. I realise you added it to ensure that a player needs to land at some point and can't just keep attacking. I also think it's pretty interesting how you vary up the levels and the platforms that are available as well. However, it results in situations where you're pretty much going to die instantly even at full health if you run out of stamina
( eg : in the dog's second phase where you need to land on the frisbee. If you run out of stamina at any point and the firsbee isn't around, you're pretty much screwed since you'll never be able to get back up to it. Same for the final phase of the snake where it's chasing after you. If this is more of a skill issue then I apologise lol, but I definitely feel like it's a little too unforgiving )
I think these issues could've been mitigated by a little balancing here and there. Maybe after landing a successful hit, you get back a good amount of stamina ( I think this is already there, but maybe the amount of stamina you get back could be a little more ). The rate at which you get back stamina while on the ground could be also increased. I say these things because it felt like a lot of the bosses were a little too fast sometimes for how limited the player was.
On that note, while I think the attacks of all 4 bosses were pretty varied, I'm not really a fan of how some of them were handled. I think the attack where the dog was digging and launching dirt projectiles at you was a little too random. Same for the attack where the snake shot out those bones(?) at you. I'm also not a fan of some of the other attacks that the snake had in it's first phase like the tip of it's tale and it shooting out that venom. Both of those attacks felt a little too fast for how comparitively slow the bird was.
Another issue I had with the snake was that I didn't really think at first that parrying the bones would do damage to it, mostly because parrying objects till then didn't seem to damage the boss, so I thought I had to hit the tip of it's tale that was holding up the bone shield. It took me a little bit to realise what had to be done here. That by itself is fine, but I think it could've been taught to the player before. Maybe parrying the leaves damaged the bird bosses.
That said, I thought the 2 bird bosses were almost perfect in general. Probably the best examples of what you were trying to do with this game. The snake came close but feels a little too unforgiving imo.
All in all, I think you've definitely made a damn good game. All it really needs is some balancing here and there. Wonderful work on this
Thank you so much for your insightful comment! Really appreciate the time you took to relate your experience. The inconsistency of the controls, as you stated, comes from not inputing the dirrection you want to go while spinning precisely or from making a small spinning radius ( only in dynamic mode ). I am considering your suggestion of holding Z to enter the spinning mode and then holding D or A to spin clock-wise or anti clock-wise, which would make it easier for the player to spin, while still keeping aiming a challange.
I want to fix the dog's 2nd phase stamina problem by giving stuff for you to parry while the disc in the background, and also make parrying action less punishing by reducing an amount of stamina other than draining all of it, my fault. The 3rd phase of the snake already have things for you to parry, the green boulders, so that phase might be the only "skill issue" thing I've read lol.
Some of the attacks are "random", but the randomness only kicks in after a certain amount of time without hitting them. If you do hit them, the chance of the boss attacking gets higher. But I feel like there is improvement in the code so it feels less random.
Thanks again for your feedback and your experience playing, I took some notes and will follow through with them! Peace!!
Your Art style is great fun to play.
Very original idea. Took a while to understand the mechanics, but i made it. Artstyle is very well made, reminds of old books of english i read in school.

This game is just awesome, the hand-drawn animations, awesome music and sound effects (and the snake VO lol) one of the most original but hard to master games of the jam for sure and you nailed it!
Eu não esperava um jogo de bem-te-vi nesse boss rush, sensacional kkkk. The music, the art, the sounds, for anyone who appreciates this bird, it’s a real treat. The game is a bit challenging and not for everyone, but I genuinely loved it. If I were to give some feedback, I’d just say the bird’s spin shouldn’t be so hard to pull off. Even after playing for almost an hour, there were times I’d start spinning and lose momentum, and it didn’t need to be that difficult to execute. Perfect game !
I prefer the old picture for the logo thing.
I played the game and to be very honest, the gameplay is just stressful.
I understand that you need to spin around to attack and that's the point of the theme, but it's also loose and very hard to control, not mention stamina and places to stay still makes this game feel like a soul game, which is something I stay away from. I only managed to beat the first boss and only because it was stationary with simple mechanics. everyone else feels like a Cuphead boss.
but, the visuals are amazing, the animation looks so drawn like and the music is calming yet upbeat. the visuals are nice, though it is a tough game that I think players who likes challenges would enjoy. at least I can acknowledge that.
You are right, games like this are not for everyone, especially with the odd mechanic that is spinning! Thank you for giving an account of your experience, as it helps me make it more accessible for different type of gamers in the future.
The animations are hand-drawn and took a lot of effort, so I'm really happy you liked those! I appreciate your honesty and thanks for playing!
At first I didn't understand the mechanics very well, but after playing several times and understanding it, I found it interesting. Artistically and musically it is beautiful, the style they used is very comforting. ☺️
Appreciate your comment! This game's mechanic takes some practice, but you get the hang of it eventually!!
