I'm not sure if everyone got the information, but there are some things (like the audio) that I didn't create. They were credited on the game page, but I realised that most people never went there. So to set the record straight, here are the credits for the wonderful people who made the music, sfx and slime sprite.
Credit to Pixelsnorf for the slime sprites. Link to the slime sprites: https://pixelsnorf.itch.io/platformer-slimes
Credits to XtremeFredd for the Brewery Music (Bit Beats 3) Credits to Lightyeartraxx for the Fight Music (Just a Dream (Wake Up!)
Credits to DASK for the SFX (RETRO SOUNDS)
Yay the crash is fixed!!
Really fun concept and I love the three sections of gameplay that was really close to being a super addictive game loop. Discovering potion recipes was fun, but I think I would have appreciated a recipe book that unlocks them once I learn a new recipe. That way you can have some experimenting and discovery but don't have to write it down on a piece of paper. (I instantly forgot how I made my first Magic potion and didn't write it down lol)
The game loop also ended when I realized I didn't have anything to buy with the gold from completing potion orders, so I didn't have an incentive to keep going.
But I had a lot of fun on my first few runs! I liked the collection mechanic and felt really good to get a ton of resources. I also liked the drag and drop system in the lab, making the potions was fun too.
Overall great job and look forward to seeing if you expand this! A fresh take on the survivors genre.
Thank you for giving my game a second try. I'll try to expand the gameplay of the game (like adding a shop where you can spend the money you earn). I think I have an idea for the recipe book you mentioned. It would work in such a way that you could store potions that you have made and see what kind of ingredients are in them. I would also like to make the potions work in the combat section as well, but I will have to look into the ballencing of it. I'm really grateful that even though the game was a bit buggy at first, you had the patience to wait until I uploaded a fixed version.
Thank you all for reviewing my game. I checked the code and found out why the game was crashing. The problem was that the game was looking for the bottle sprite outside of the game again. It should be fixed now. So for anyone reviewing the game after the patch, please note that I fixed this bug after the submission deadline.
i managed to get the game to run by giving it the "Sprite/Bottle.png" the error was whining about.
Gameplay: even when it does function, the gameplay left me confused and underwhelmed. i think the main problem here is the lack of explanation for how to make different potions of different types. even an included README.txt with the potion recipes would have gone a long way to making me feel more motivated to keep playing. as for the vampire survivor part; it's conceptually interesting how you have to drag the ingredients back to the spawn point in order to collect them. i feel the main takeaway here is that the game needed to be more clear about what it is the player is ment to do
Graphics: the visuals are a bit basic, yet charming. aside from the missing sprite for the bottle, it's functional. i particularly like the main character with their cute little face.
Audio: only thing holding me back from giving it all 5 stars was the kind of unimpressive sound effects. the music was really nice. the shop theme has these nice and chill vibes.
Theme: having the fire heat a cauldron is a fine concept, but i was left a little underwhelmed by how much fire was featured. i feel like we should have a fire based attack, or have to collect fuel for the fire.
so a mixed bag overall. you did some things particularly well, namely the music. other things felt like they did not get the time or attention that they needed.
The new EXE runs until I clicked brew on my first potion and then it got the DLL error again :(
I really want to play this though!! I really liked the concept I saw so far of having the potion segment then going into the vampire survivors battlefield! Hopefully you can fix the crash so I can fully review!
Didn't get to play much before the crash. But it seems cool. Defeat enemies, get ingredients, brew a potion then fight again.
Music, art and sfx were pretty good. I'd recommend making it run in the browser if you can. A lot of people are reluctant to download .exe files from strangers and it my anti-virus got very worried.
Fix the bugs and you've got a good little game here.
It should work now. The only thing that has changed is that it searches for the files inside the game, not outside, and one of the sprites has been replaced to make it work.
