I agree with others below that making a game like this is pretty ambitious, and it was pretty fun (until I died on the final boss)! I had a few suggestions:
Very cool, not expecting to play this kind of game for the jam. The Ice Shard tabled me, the RPG combat works fine and makes sense, but the player is very oddly designed in the overworld, being comically fast. Either way most of the game is played in combat anyway.
Really impressive game for such a short dev time! Didn't go into this expecting a turn-based pokemon-styled rpg, but I'm glad I did. Found an issue where the scroll of flames didn't seem to work against any enemies, but my sword always came through. I agree that it moved a bit too fast, and the walking sounds became a bit annoying after some time. But really good job overall!
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I definitely broke the scroll of flames, I'll take a look when I update it!
Awesome! Making a turn-based rpg in a week is no easy feat! Quite impressive. I loved the art style and overall adventure feel of the game. I loved the color choice. It really made the game art pop. The enemy "breathing" animations were also really cool. The player moved way too fast. The battles were fun, but could get a little long and boring. I wish there was more enemy variety and that there was either some point to slaying enemies, or that they would chase you so you have to fight them. There was a good variety of weapons and abilities and I thought the freezing mechanic was incredibly clever, but just like the enemies all the abilities were very similar and there was no description telling you what each one did. I also encountered a bug in which the fireball spell would heal me and not do damage to the enemy (fireball not warm self). All in all I loved playing your game and hope you expand upon it.
Thankyou for the feedback! I'll definitely need to take a look at some of those abilities, seems I got some of the numbers wrong :/
I definitely think I'll take a crack at some of your suggestions, I actually have half the code to examine items (just never got it finished) - and the enemies all have inventories that I wanted to allow the player to loot. With a bit more time I could make a bunch of new enemies and items too!
Nice! I'm looking forward to seeing your additions!
Really cool premise, my only issues with the game are the fact that the player moves too fast (for example first time I missed the chest and accidentally went directly to the beetle) and the lack of music
Thanks for playing! I was planning on doing some music actually but I had to take a sick day :(
I'll see about finishing it soon, same with the move speed!
Good art and nicelly implemented turn based battles. I think the player moves way too fast it was hard to control.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! I'll tone it down with the next update :)
I like the simplistic art style & animations. Unfortunately, there seems to be a game breaking bug / soft-lock if you attack a monster without a weapon, leaving you with nowhere to escape (unless I missed the option)
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll do smth about the soft lock after the voting period!
I did actually have an escape option but I broke it before submitting :/
As far as I understand it, you are allowed to fix bugs ; the rules state that :
After the submission period is over, you can fix bugs and add new ways to play (web build or any other), but not radically change the game.
The battles are sometimes too long or boring, plus you can’t get out of them. Didn’t finish the game, but enjoyed the much I played.
Nice!
Thanks for playing! I didn't get enough time to balance everything properly in the end, I did originally have a flee mechanic but I had to cut it last minute unfortunately :(
I really appreciate the feedback!
