how about adding support for MIDI keyboards? It would be amazing to create music not just with a mouse but by 'going with the flow.'

what about allowing users to import their own samples? expanding the sound library would add more variety and make it more exciting to incorporate new elements into tracks

The number one thing I'd like to see is the options to choose different time signatures. Currently making a song in 3/4 time and it does basically fit, but it is awkward and I have to ignore parts of the grid and there's some weirdness when transitioning between blocks.

Anyway thank you for this tool, it has been so helpful.

In guitar the effect I am referencing is known as a bend, where a player hits the note(s) then physically bends the string(s) to get a higher note, or in reverse takes a pre-bent string for the higher note then after hitting it allows the string to revert down to the original note.

Would there be a way to add this into the system? (if this is ALREADY a feature and I just couldn't figure it out, apologies and can you let me know what that procedure is?)

It would be good if it can export everything that is not muted as a MIDI File.  If it could do this, it would then be fully integrated into my studio setup.

Thanks, and hope you can do this!

This is more a change for better a user experience instead of a feature request, I guess?
To make the experience a little bit snappier.

  • Remove the 1sec. "cooldown" of holding CTRL and let the menu appear instantly
  • Let the copy/paste menu move with your mouse
    • If the mouse enters another "square", it gets the copy/paste menu instead

Also, you can right-click the top-bar to access the copy/paste menu but you cannot right click the "squares". A small consistency issue.
(Sorry, I don't know the technical terms or the nicknames of these "squares")

I left a video here where I make the mouse-motion so it will maybe make it easier to understand. Thank you for reading :)

For instance, if you pencil draw a line of notes, you often want to Undo the whole batch of notes, not just the notes one by one. This takes more time to undo each of them… However, in some cases, granular undo is desirable, so you may want to survey your users (e.g. in this thread) to decide which behaviour to make default in which case. In any case, this could be made either a preference or a separate button / shortcut so users can still choose between granular and batch Undo.

Personally, I would make batch Undo default in all common cases, then let the advanced users select isolated Undo for specific actions if they really want.

This issue is not specific to 1-bit Dragon. In fact, I saw many apps have them, including code editors like Visual Studio that make you undo every single character change instead of a batch word change (to be fair, in normal usage it’s fine, but plugin writers may forget to batch their actions, leading to this).

Currently, the app remembers the file name but not its path, and will prompt for the save path on every save. If you don’t put your project in the default folder (the app folder), you need to reselect this folder each time.

A button that saves the project in the current/last path, as in other apps, mapped to Ctrl+S, would help. On first save, it would act like Save as.

Then the current button would become Save as with a different icon, and mapped to Ctrl+Shift+S.

The earlier version of 1bitdragon had text to describe what kind of fill/chords/bass line it was. Which I found very helpful.

Most of them were the same with the arrangement of them either being higher or lower which you fixed with the arrow keys in the third version. Like Cimena 1A all the way to 1E etc.

I would like to see the text make a return to the new version or an option to toggle the description on and off.

I especially like the sound of the Cinematic and Militaristic fills/chords/bassline. can't remember which one it was right now

Either way, great work on the software!

Could we have alternate appearance notes for the generated patterns?

Perhaps a similar technique could also be useful to show the length of longer instruments  like pads.

It brings a ton of customization. Just check this out. I understand that something of this level won't fit the simple nature of the 1bitdragon, but a way to add a bit of customization to drums would be awesome.

They would be limited in terms of customization to keep things simple and the settings would be global for that session

https://itch.io/t/1698605/a-thank-you-and-2-requestsA "thank you" and 2 requests.https://itch.io/t/1698605/a-thank-you-and-2-requestsThu, 14 Oct 2021 05:05:40 GMTThu, 14 Oct 2021 05:05:40 GMTThu, 14 Oct 2021 05:05:40 GMTFirst, I'm having a blast with 1BD! Thanks for the time and effort you've put into it. It works a treat for me! I run it in Lubuntu 20.04 with an i5 3.60GHz CPU and 32G of system ram. I haven't run into any problems with stability or recording/saving/disk operations at all. I like the clean midi export which I also import into Renoise 3.3.2. Which brings my first request.

In Renoise there is a user-created tool called ChordLord. Basically, one chooses a key and mode, say key of E and Pentatonic Minor. The program shows all the available chords that fit that key and mode in a grid. The user then chooses the chord from the grid they want to add to the track they are working on and clicks to add it. It saves a lot of time and tedium not having to choose each note for a particular chord and enter them one by one. Here is a link showing the program: https://www.renoise.com/tools/chordlord

My second request would be that when loading or saving a file that 1BD remembers the last directory that was used. It saves time not having to hunt down directory tree each time.

Keep up the fine work. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun composing tunes! Best Regards and Be Well.

https://itch.io/t/1753384/add-greek-modesAdd greek modes.https://itch.io/t/1753384/add-greek-modesThu, 11 Nov 2021 05:45:12 GMTThu, 11 Nov 2021 05:45:12 GMTThu, 11 Nov 2021 05:45:12 GMTHi, I think this tool is missing the rest of greek modes beyond major and minor, since they are fundamental to compose music.

Also, it would be a nice touch to help people without music education using the tool if there was an emoji like a happy emoji for the major and sad emoji for the minor, next to the scale/mode title/cathegory.

:)
