Is zed the best editor? #24542

I don't think there is or will be such a thing as "best editor"; it's more of a question of which is best for you. To me, the terminal-based editors (emacs, vim, helix, etc) are in a different category than gui-based editors (zed, vscode, sublime, etc). If you're most comfortable in the terminal no matter how "good" a gui editor is, it's not in your terminal and you probably don't want it. That being said, while I enjoy being in a terminal for everything, I value some of the niceties of Zed just enough (and the builtin terminal is good enough) that it's my main editor. No editor will ever surpass Emacs or Vim or Helix, etc for some and that's just fine. Base your decisions on what you value most, use what you want, and be happy that others are doing the same. |

We can't assert what the world thinks of Zed, but we enjoy using it and we have a few friends who do too! We hope more people find Zed and find themselves enjoying the experience as well, as we continue to round out 1.0 features. |

I've been using emacs for two years and once I thought it was the best editor. However, due to the lag on Windows, I have never realized its potential. I meat zed and started to use it half a year ago, and I found it performs excellently on Windows and is a full text design. In the future, it will add general extensions, so I believe it is possible to surpass emacs and become my lifelong editor. When I brought this idea back to the emacs community, some top emacs hackers don't agree with my statement. They think emacs will always be the best editor and it cannot be replaced forever. So I want to know, do you think zed will become the best editor? Why?
